Plot

The Rainbow Sands in Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos episode 9, "Dash Out, Tank Trancer!"

The quest has brought the travelers to the painted desert of Arambia with it's beautiful Rainbow Sands. While scouting ahead, Rom finds a Tank Transer being attacked by Gandora Devil Soldiers. Jet and Drill recognize him as Trim Sponsor and save him from a sand monster. That night, the group spot a mysterious singer in the desert. Trim says it is his girlfriend Lumei but refuses to let them meet her. Trim insists on staying in the desert while the others continue to the city to follow the Wolf Sword. He tells them a safe path but instead the desert attacks the travelers with poison gas. Drill saves them by burrowing underground where they find a giant drill ship with the Wolf Crest on it. The ship takes them to the local king who tells them Arambia is suffering an energy shortage since Trim betrayed them on a mission to get Hyribead from another settlement. Drill reacts angrily but Rom offers to recapture the Hyribead for the king, and promises Drill they will find out why Trim did it. They head into the desert and split up to find him.

Trim ambushes Rom, refusing to listen to reason. He acts erratically and begins to break up before suddenly exploding. Rom spots and confronts Lumei, who turns out to be a lifeless android carrying the Hyribead. Rom finds a recording in the robot. Trim's message explains the king - working for the Gandora - used an experimental bomb, mutating the desert, killing Lumei and infecting him. He stole the Hyribead to prevent the king making further bombs. The others swear vengeance. In Blade Dragon form Rom confronts the king, backed by Jet and Drill. The king turns into a massive Gandora monster, so Rom calls up Vikung-Fu and uses the mutated desert to destroy him. Victorious, they bury Trim's remains.

Notes

  • Firsts:

The Rainbow Sands of Arambia have different dangers based on their colors. Red sands are infernally hot, white sands are near absolute zero, blue sands have monsters, but green sands are safe.

  • Rom Stol's lecture this week is about "triumph". The Devil Soldiers doesn't deserve to know his name.
  • This episode establishes that Rod Drill and Time Sponsor are both from the Battle Clan.
  • Battleflex is missing again until it's time to travel, then he suddenly appears from nowhere.
  • Death toll: Rom dispatches two Devil Soldiers with his Serpentine Blade Chop.
  • The French dub of this episode was called "Le Tank, Transfuge des Enfers", which means "The Tank, Defector of the Underworld".
  • Some English subtitles of this episode are called "Kidnapped! Tank Transer!".
