Radwan al Shakouri is a citizen of Morocco who was held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba.[1]
His Guantanamo Internment Serial Number was 499.
Joint Task Force Guantanamo analysts report that he was born on February 12, 1972, in Asafi, Morocco.
He was repatriated with three other Moroccan captives in Guantanamo on July 31, 2004—on the eve of the first Combatant Status Review Tribunal.[2][3] The three other men were Mohammed Ibrahim Awzar, Mohammed Mizouz, and Ibrahim Bin Shakaran. The BBC reports a fifth man, Abdellah Tabarak was repatriated with the four others. The four were all charged by Moroccan authorities; then released on bail. Chekkouri was subsequently reincarcerated when new charges were laid.
Allegations
According to Middle East Online Morocco has charged Chekkouri with: "'support for a criminal group by transferring money to Moroccans to create a gang that threatens Morocco's interests', and assistance in forging passports."[4] According to the Morocco Times Morocco also charged Chekkouri with: “relations with the Islamic Group of Moroccan Fighters and with al Qaeda.”[5]
