Alliance University is a non-profit private university[6] that was established in the State of Karnataka by act no. 34 of the year 2010 under the recognition of University Grants Commission[7] of Ministry of Education (India) (MoE). The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes[8] in the academic disciplines of business, engineering, technology, liberal arts, applied mathematics, commerce, and law under the aegis of its flagship constituent colleges Alliance School of Business, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance School of Law, Alliance Ascent College, Alliance School of Liberal Arts, and the Alliance School of Applied Mathematics and Alliance Executive Education.

History and governance

Alliance University has a history of over 25 years[9] within the educational sector. It is the first private university in both Karnataka and South India.

Originally established in 1995 as Alliance Business Academy, the institution later transformed into Alliance Business School in 2005. Through the enactment of the Karnataka State Act No. 34 in 2010, Alliance University attained the status of a university. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.[10] The growth and development of the university has been supported by Alliance Business School Pvt. Ltd.[11]

In March 2021, a new leadership team was appointed, including the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor.

Alliance Central Campus-The central campus is situated within the borders of Bangalore City, in Chandapura-Anekal Main Road[12] and houses more than 60 acres of green campus[13] and over 80 multimedia enabled classrooms. The campus also includes 18 acres of sporting facilities, an administrative block, central library, learning center, labs, fitness and activity center, multiple food outlets, and halls of residents for its students.


The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, executive, and doctoral degree programs and several professional certificate programs under its constituent schools.

Alliance School of Business[14] offers B.Com., BBA, MBA, MBA-Digital Transformation, Executive PGDM, and Ph.D. in management.

Alliance School of Law offers. B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., LL.B., LL.M., and Ph.D. in law.

Alliance College of Engineering and Design offers B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. in Engineering and Design.

Alliance Ascent College offers BBA and MBA.

Alliance School of Liberal Arts offers B.Sc., BA, BFA, B. Des., BVA, MA, Global Leaders’ Alliance (GLA), Ph.D. in Sciences, Ph.D. in economics, and Ph.D. from School of Liberal Arts.

Alliance School of Applied Mathematics offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics.

In addition to the full-time programs, the university offers a variety of on-campus and flexi-mode executive education programs and doctoral programs with a research-focused teaching methodology and learning.

Rankings, Accreditions, Accolades

  • July 2023: Ranked 25th in Law by NIRF and 87th in Management.[15]
  • May 2023: Rated DIAMOND by QS I-GAUGE[16]
  • March 2023:  Shortlisted for THE Awards Asia 2023 under the category ‘International Strategy of the Year’ for Global Leaders’ Alliance (GLA) program at Alliance School of Liberal Arts.[17]
  • January 2023: Times B-School Rankings 2023- Ranked 3rd Best B-School under a Private University, 3rd Best B-School in South India, 13th Best B-School in India (including IIMs and other Government-run Business Schools)[18]

Literary Fests and Programs

Alliance Literary Festival[22]; May 20-21st, 2022 Alliance University presented the biggest literary festival hosted by an educational institution in India. An initiative of the Alliance School of Liberal Arts, the event witnessed speakers and performers in the areas of art, history, culture, politics, management, media, music, and much more.

Asian Pacific Literary Festival[23]; November 28-30th 2022 The Asia Pacific Literary Festival (APLF), 2022 hosted by Alliance University's School of Liberal Arts, in association with Asia Pacific Writers & Translators Inc (APWT), featured a line-up of authors, translators, performers from around the world, along with cultural events, that showcased the talent of the Asia Pacific region.

Alliance One[24] the three-day event was driven by one of the most critical priorities of India's G20 Presidency – 'Accelerating Progress on SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)[25]' as laid out by the United Nations.

Chief Guest: Dr. Shalini Rajneesh (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring & Statistics and Department of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Government of Karnataka.

TEDx Alliance-January 21, 2023, themed "Beyond Boundaries"[26] Speakers included Ankita Mehra, a leader in diversity and inclusion and a content producer, Candida Louis, a young Indian woman from Karnataka with a passion for biking throughout the world; Ashish Raorane, one of the few Indian cross-country rally pilots who competed in the Dakar Rally;  Lt. Col. Rohit Mishra (Rtd.), a veteran of the Indian Army who founded an organisation that empowers girls through self-defence; Malavika Avinash, a well-known politician and actor from South India; Ruchir Falodiya, an Alliance alumnus who talked about his journey to corporate; Vaishnavi H. S., a media professional who has produced award-winning shows, and Saiwyn Quadras, a storyteller who has written the screenplays for Bollywood films like Mary Kom, Neerja, and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.
