History

West Bengal Chemical Industries Ltd., often known as WBCIL, was founded in the northern suburbs of Kolkata, India, in technical cooperation with a German chemicals major as a public sector chemical company based in Kolkata, India. As a subsidiary of the Indian government-owned Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), WBCIL operates under the administrative control of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

It offers a significantly wider range of products than it did when it was first established. WBCIL widened its product line to cover both inorganic and organic APIs, although its core business remains fine chemicals and nutraceuticals.

There are currently 116 products offered by WBCIL, ranging from Calcium Methylfolate (which has a medicinal purpose for folate supplements) to Calcium Propionate (used by the bakery and feed supplement sector). With a present yearly production of more than 1500 MT of different chemicals and APIs, WBCIL reached 6,000 MT at its cutting-edge manufacturing unit in Dahej, Gujarat, by 2020.

WBCIL is a prominent producer of iron, zinc, manganese, copper, calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium citrate, acetate, propionate, butyrate, and ascorbate salts. The business specializes in producing directly compressible APIs. The API of WBCIL complies with IP, USP, and BP. The company's test procedures have undergone the rigorous scrutiny of analytical technique validation, and the Quality Control Department is GLP-Compliant.
