Thomas Nordström

Sven Thomas Ingemar Nordström (born March 3, 1951)[1][2] is a Swedish scientist,[3][4] author,[5] entrepreneur,[6] and educator.[7][8][9][10] He has been the CEO of Research and Development Institutes in Sweden.[11][12] Nordström holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and wrote his dissertation on Decision Making and Democracy in Business Companies.[13] He has worked as an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Organizational Innovation Processes at the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden.[14]

Early Life and Education

Nordström was born to Sven-Erik Nordström and Evy Nordström. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, having written his dissertation on decision-making and democracy in business companies.[7][15][16]

Career

Leadership

Volvo

During the late 80s, Nordström worked at Volvo for six years. He created a new production organization within Volvo in Olofström, impacting Volvo Group and several other engineering companies, including ABB and Scania.[15][16][13]

Industrial Development Centre

In 1990, Nordström formulated a business idea that included product, production, material, competence, and company development. From 1990 to 2000, he ran the Industrial Development Centre as CEO in Olofström for ten years.[17] He pushed forward the IUC movement in Sweden,[9] and currently, there are more than 17 active so-called IUCs in the country utilizing IUC/Olofström as a model.[15][16][13][10][12]

In 1997, the government decided on SEK 180 million for these IUCs to carry out the UPA mission, including outreach, product development, and spin-offs with small and medium-sized companies. It started several projects, including the start-up of EBP AB, Eftmarknad Bilplåt AB, which has a turnover of 400 million and soon after the start, Hexagon became the owner.[17] Nordström was concurrently serving as CEO of EBP AB and IUC. He did production organization, lead time shortening, flow simplification, the introduction of ISO 9001 and 14001, product development, market strategy and marketing, lean production, profitability, and non-stock issues, business development with new business ideas and business models, and of course as a leader and manager.[18][16]

IVF Industrial Research and Development AB in Mölndal

Nordström was CEO[19][20] of IVF for three years,[17] a research institute focusing on the Swedish engineering industry.[10] Before his tenure, IVF was poorly managed, close to bankruptcy, was in control balance mode, with very weak liquidity; upon his joining and reducing the company from 150 to 100 in two rounds, he sold the property for SEK 90 million and introduced a new vision, business concept, business model and organization and docked IVF AB to the group Swerea AB.[16][13][12]

During his year and a half at IVF, Nordström has spent much time cutting back, cleaning, de-prioritizing research, dismissing staff, and closing two branches, one in Linköping and one in Luleå. Nordström is working against dismantling R&D in the engineering industry and urges more money from the state to create the super institute that the government wants.[19]

Tubearing AB

In 2000, as CEO for a year, Nordström helped SKF transform a department into Tubearing AB and made the company profitable.[17][12] The change primarily moved the company from Gothenburg and SKF to Värnamo, where hands-on production techniques ensured quality and trouble-free production.[15] The logistics were simplified when the ball bearing was hardened in Värnamo. The production cost decreased dramatically, which, based on the existing customer structure, profited annually, was over two million or about 30% of the turnover. Nordström acquired 50% of the shares and was the owner for seven years until the company was sold in the fall of 2006.[16]

Easy2Tel AB

In 2001, Nordström was active as CEO of IT-Telecom company Easy2Tel AB in Stockholm for a year.[15][13] The business model was based on operators receiving the right to offer their subscribers the "easy2roam" service via license agreements, i.e., always being able to call the cheapest operator when staying abroad. As the telecoms industry became increasingly shaky that year, he helped put the company on the back burner.[16]

Rector at Kristianstad University

As Rector at Kristianstad University, Nordström introduced a vision "educate Sweden's most employable students" and an operating concept "In collaboration with the surrounding society, combine theory and practice, so that education and research promote entrepreneurship, learning, as well as health and the environment." The university's board decided to profile around entrepreneurship, learning, health, and the environment. Then, after six months, he left since he was used to the faster tempo within the industry.[16]

VINNOVA

For two years, Nordström worked at VINNOVA in Stockholm and acquired a unique experience of the national R&D system.[16]

Entrepreneur

Nordström owned the company Paradigmor AB, a partner in several companies, all sold.[13]

Educator

Nordström taught for five years at the university, high, and junior high school.[15] He lectured to the Riksdag's education committee and the minister of education based on his book about how schools should change.[15] Several schools implemented initiatives based on that book's ideas, close to what Education Minister Jan Björklund advocates.[16][13]

During 2002-2004, Nordström was an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Organizational Processes at Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden.[7][15][16][14]

On December 29, 2022, he lectured on The Principle of Relations and its Applications for four Theoretical Physics and Philosophy professors at the University of Columbia in New York on Zoom.[16] On January 27, 1997, in collaboration with the government of Sweden, Nordström developed $50M industrial development centres.

Research Work

Nordström's research finds Einstein's equation E = mc2 invalid, arguing that c2 does not directly represent reality.[15] His work consists of scepticism regarding the concepts of energy, the analogy of nature being a building block of a house, the concept of equivalence being invalid, and mathematics being the language of nature.[16]

Nordström discusses concepts dealing with physical reality to seek the simplicity that unites relativity and quantum to understand the Universe, including gravity, space-time, force, and energy.[15] He unveils the workings of phenomena such as Black Holes, DNA, ATP synthase, mass energy, and Plato's cave and unpacks the pragmatic ideology of global policies.[8][16][5] His postulate led to a principle, The Principle of Relations, which was applied to all parts of reality and all established fields of science. He published in the International Journal of Science and Research.[21][16][11]

Personal Life

Nordström resides in Bromölla[25] with his wife, Margareta Nordström.[1][2] When he was 38 years old, he got severe cancer.[12][4]
