Softjourn (legal name Softjourn, Inc.) is a full-cycle consulting and software development company[1], with expert product teams experienced in Fintech, Media & Entertainment, with a special emphasis on Ticketing. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with R&D offices in Ukraine, Poland, and Brazil, Softjourn is a global software development company with over 20 years of experience.[2] The company positions itself as an expert in the media and entertainment industry[3] and is also a developer of software in the financial technology sector.


History

The company was founded in 2001 by Emmy Gengler and Jeff Kreuser. Emmy Gengler, the current CEO, started her career as a software developer. In 1994, she moved to the former Soviet Union, where she later became president and CEO of the systems integration firm Universal Business Systems, Inc. in Kyiv.[4]

Initially, Softjourn was a network of partner companies located in different parts of Ukraine. In 2005, Emmy Gengler and Jeff Kreuser decided to work with Bogdan Mykhaylovych and Sergiy Fitsak on a full-time basis. At the time, they were working for Beskyd, a Ukrainian software development company that provides banking solutions. That same year, the company opened a new development office in Ivano-Frankivsk, where Bogdan and Sergiy lived.[5]

In 2014, the company opened an R&D office in Wroclaw.

In 2016, the company was first included in the list of the best outsourcing companies in the world, according to the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP).[6]

In 2020, the company joined the Poland Business Harbor program, which aims to attract foreign IT professionals/companies. [7]

In 2022, Softjourn became a resident of Diia.City.[8]

In 2023, the company opened an R&D office in São Paulo.[9]

Products and Services

Ticketing

The company positions itself as a leader in the ticketing industry with 20+ years of experience.[10]

Softjourn works in two directions:

  • modernizing legacy ticketing platforms;[11]
  • developing new systems, creating mobile applications for access control, printing and scanning tickets, and integrating with payment systems.[12]

The company has also created and continues to improve its own ticketing products. For example, a system for printing tickets on Boca thermal printers, an application with basic functionality for controlling access to events, and the company has developed a platform for creating seating charts with a social distancing algorithm.

Financial technologies

The financial technology sector includes work with payment processors, banks, transaction operators, and issuers of prepaid card services. Softjourn is a developer of mobile applications, self-service portals, and independent platforms. The firm also specializes in artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.[13] [14]

Media and entertainment

The company creates services for live events, online events, and streaming services.[15]

One of the company's projects was the development of a movie app. It allowed viewers to synchronize the sound on their own devices with a movie broadcast on the big screen. The technology was created specifically for outdoor events.[16]

Initiatives

Softjourn is a regular partner of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. The company's volunteers have created courses on startup development: from idea to finished solution. The company also helped to organize the IT Eureka competition held as part of the Tempus project.[17]

Softjourn was a co-organizer of the All-Ukrainian Internet conference of young scientists and students, "Information Technologies in Education, Engineering and Industry".

It is a regular partner of one of the largest design conferences in Ukraine, Design Village, held annually in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Softjourn is a co-founder and participant (2015-2020) of the IT-Cluster in Ivano-Frankivsk, which was created to develop the city through the development of IT and cooperation between education, science, and business. The company is also a member of the IT Cluster of the Wroclaw University of Technology.[18]

It is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, advocating for developing the Ukrainian business environment.

Softjourn is one of the main sponsors of the Warm City project in Ivano-Frankivsk. The platform brings together people and businesses that support ideas and actions for the sustainable development of the city. The main goal is to transform the urban space into a warm, comfortable, and aesthetic environment, as well as to create conditions for unleashing the intellectual and creative potential of the city, the exchange of ideas, and economic growth.

Awards and Recognition

Softjourn was included in the INC 5000 list of the best private companies in 2016 and 2022.

In 2017, the company was included in the top 30 fastest-growing companies.

In 2019, Softjourn was recognized as one of the best software development companies in San Francisco.

In 2020, Softjourn was ranked among the top 100 best outsourcers in the world by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP).

In 2021, Softjourn entered the Top 100+ blockchain development companies according to Topdevelopers.co, ranking 46th. In the same year, the company's CEO, Emmy Gengler, was recognized as one of the leaders in the consulting industry by Global Leaders in Consulting 2021 in the category "Excellence in Innovation".
