Shihyun Wang

Shihyun Wang (born July 1, 1964), also known as Shihyun Sherry Wang (王世昀), is an American writer, film director, producer, editor,[1][2][3] realtor, and Certified Public Accountant.[4][5] She runs a YouTube channel, The Mysterydecoder.[6]

Early life and education

Wang was born to Chia-Shan Wang, a Naval Officer, and Wei-Min Tang Wang, a primary school teacher, in Taiwan.[4]

She holds a Bachelor's degree in International Trade Section of the Department of Business from National Taiwan University and an MBA from Auburn University. Wang is a CA Certified Public Accountant[6][4][5] and Certified in Financial Management.

Career

Wang creates documentaries, comedy, Sci-Fi, horror, musicals, romance, and even western, and has written, edited, and produced most of her 500+ films in English.[1][4]

In October 2015, Wang started her youtube channel, The Mysterydecoder and Incarnated Angels. After working on several documentaries till 2017, she launched her first fiction film, Girl Indigo: 16 Going 61, a winner of Film of the Year 2017 at the Hell Chess Film Festival in Spain.[5]

Wang won five awards after submitting 28 films to festivals in the last quarter of 2016. In 2017, she offered 130 films and won 62 awards, and her 2018's 101 films helped win 255 prizes, including five documentary awards for five movies in Accolade Global Competition. In 2019, Wang's 82 productions won 245 awards, including five feature drama films winning 6 Accolade awards, while another won in history/biography and one in creativity. Her feature drama, Ex-Con, about an ex-convict, won an Indiefest Award. Moreover, she received five awards in Canada's Yes, Let's Make an annual Movie festival.

In 2020, despite staying in Taiwan 8 months during the COVID-19 pandemic, her 82 films won 245 awards, with 13 awards from Accolade Global Competition, four from Best Shorts, eight from Indiefest, and two from Impact Docs awards. Her feature musical docudrama, Forever Four, won the 21st annual Barebone Best Produced Film and 2nd place in Best Music Documentary. In the 15th annual Bridge Fest in Canada, Wang took back three awards. In Cleveland, at the 25th The Indiegathering, she won 2 awards, including another 3rd place in Best Sci-Fi on It's an Invisible War and an Honorable Mention on Anna Nicole. Her documentary Forever Elvis won a bronze documentary at the 53rd Worldfest Houston.

While residing in Taiwan, in 2021, Wang made 100 films and won 319 awards, including 13 Accolade Global Competitions, 23 Best Shorts, 3 Impact Docs Awards, and 25 Indiefest Awards. Her music video Poems by Two Emperor Poets won the Best Music Award in India's annual Ayodhya Film Festival, Samaskarina, and Shunyatam Festival. The feature film Two Emperor Poets won 3rd place in Drama at the 26th Indie Gathering. Moreover, 7 of Wang's films won 4 Silver and 3 Bronze at the 54th Worldfest Houston.

After the COVID-19 lockdown in 2022, Wang made 100 films in Taiwan, the United States, Mexico, and Europe. These films won 317 awards, including 10 Accolade Global competitions, 3 Impact docs Awards, and 13 Indiefest Awards.

In 2022, Wang won eleven awards at the 55th Worldfest Houston as a producer, nine as a director, and all as a writer and editor. The wins include Special Jury Awards in Rap/Hip-hop for Hollywood Dreams Not A Dream, Gold in Short Comedy The Dream Lover, and Gold in Short Drama The End of the Road. She also won four silvers in Long Short Documentary, The Number Game Under Covid Shadow, Long Short Historical, The Love Story of Shi Su, Short Original Family Drama, Family, Friends, Love and Aftershock, and Under Covid Shadow In Medical Treatment. The four Bronze are, in short, sci-fi, college production, and new media.

Wang won four awards at the 23rd Barebone Int'l Film Festival, her 5th award, and her 3rd sci-fi at the 27th The Indiegathering. In Canada's 16th annual Bridge Fest, her team won 14 annual awards for her 12 films, including Best Short Tornado's Tomorrow, filmed in Spain with only three cast members she met on a cruise. Her other wins include Honorable Mention Short for After the Doomsday, a sci-fi filmed in California. She won the best producer, script, travel, voice-over, music video, lead and supporting actor and actress, two audience choice awards, and best cast in feature and short categories. Actor Antonio Duauar played his first-ever role in Loss and Gain from Translation in Italy and won Best Actor. Ceia Zhou played her first-ever English-speaking role in Who am I and won Best Actress, and 96-year-old Pei Hsin Hsuan told her story, and the film won Cell Phone Media Audience Choice Award.

Her Spanish film, $100, won the Festival's only Special Jury Award in 2022 at Australia's Colortape Int'l. 5 of her films won at 16th annual Ayodhya Film Festival Award when only 39 Int'l films were awarded that year. Her film Boy Wanted was the only film from Taiwan nominated in the 21st annual Aporia Int'l Village Film Festival from Taiwan. Wang's documentary film Veteran Stories was nominated in 2023.

As of 2023, Wang has won 1565 MDb-certified film festivals[4] and 927 IMDb award nominations.[1] She has been an editor for over 600 films from 2016 to 2022. Wang made films in Taiwan and remotely directed many films in the USA in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Her first music video, Unknown Alien, won Best Music Video at the Sweet As Film Festival. A few months later, her Residential Aliens won Best Sci-Fi, and her Queen Mary of Scots - The True Story won Best Biography at the Fall 2017 Alternative Film Festival. In November 2017, her film I am Henry the 8th won Best Film at Canada's Sweet As Film Festival. Her movie The Messenger won Best International Film at Gala del Cinema Internazionale, Venezia 2017.[5]

Wang won Best Direction at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Film Festival 2017.[5] Her The Possessed won Best Original Screenplay Of A Short Film at Milan IFF in 2018.[7] In 2020, her movie Sorry, Mommy Is On The Phone won Gold Award at Mindfield Film Festival Albuquerque.[8]

Wang was awarded Best Produced Documentary Award by the Bare Bone Festival in 2020. Between January 2020 till May 2021, her 24 films produced during the COVID-19 pandemic garnered 14 Accolade Global Competition Awards, 16 Indiefest Awards, and 9 Best Shorts Awards. The 54th Worldfest Houston awarded her 4 Silver and 3 Bronze Remi for seven films produced in 2020 and 2021.[1][4] Wang's notable awards are 2022's 55th Worldfest HoustonHip-hop-hop Special Jury Awards, Australia's Colortape Int'l 2022 - Special Jury Prize, and 41 Accolade Global awards.

She is the recipient of Best Editing at the Independent Horror Movie Awards and Best Writer at the Barcelona Planet Film Festival. Her film on Breast Cancer, a battle we can't afford to lose, won 2 awards. Her documentary The life of Queen Mary of Scots According to Nostradamus won 2 accolades, and Help Wanted, about Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, won the Semi-Global Impact award from Move Me Productions in Belgium.[5]

Wang received five awards at Annual Indie Gatherings from 2018-2022, nine at the annual Socal Film Awards, and 19 Remi Awards from Worldfest Houston.[1] She won one Special Jury Award, two Gold, eight silver, and 8 Bronze, which totaled nineteen awards from the 53rd, 54th, and 55th Worldfest Houston. Wang won 11 awards at the 55th Houston Worldfest in 10 categories, including music video, historical, sci-fi, comedy, drama, documentaries, health, and family.

Wang appeared on podcasts, including Space JJ.[3]

Personal life

Wang is married to Der Bao Chen. Due to her cultural contribution, she was granted the title of Princess by Indonesia's Amantubillah kingdom[9] and was the second person to receive this title in Indonesia.
