Bilehsavarchian practices in the fashion industry through his alter ego Salar Bil, an alternate self, referring to fictional literature and other narrative personas of him that broke the super-ego, which means the ethical personality that provides the moral standards; he broke the idealized self-image in Iran. He works actively in filmmaking, photography, directing, stage design, painting, collages, fashion, theatrical costumes, hair and makeup, dancer since early childhood, digital works, visual merchandising, animations and poetry. His body of work is a compilation of Conceptual art, Surrealism and Dadaism fashion to 2020's pop, erotic and sex art. For his enter to the fashion and art industry Bil marked the decline of Iran’s history from Achaemenid to Qajar in an underground gallery with a context, He refused to cooperate with official galleries and he identified his position as a Democrat and it’s clear from his pictures that he is between the people in the streets. William O. Beeman, American anthropologist explained Independent designers such as Salar Bil are now being shown internationally in his article "Iranian Fashion in 21st Century". [11][12][6][13][14]

By 2015, Bilehsavarchian became known as the hottest designer in Iran.[15] He has been featured in BoF as one of the successful pioneers in Iran's fashion industry.[16] and has been called the Marcel Duchamp of Tehran.[17]

His work on different fabrics has been profiled in TIME, VOGUE, L'Obs, and the UK's Guardian.[7][18] and his designs have been featured in Tehran's Fashion Week.[15]

In 2015, Bilehsavarchian made a line for The World Food Programme; he went from sustainable development from food like WFP to articles about sustainable fashion. He pictured a conceptual dialectic collection.[6][7] Christina Aguilera wore a signature belt designed by Bil during her performance at The Hollywood Bowl on July 16, 2021.[19] He was the costume designer for Sergei Polunin's Take Me to Church by David LaChapelle [20] Salome by Romeo Castellucci and Orlando by Alexey Bogorad and Christian Spuck and designed clothes for Erykah Badu, Boy George, Róisín Murphy and Ellen von Unwerth. Bilehsavarchian also dressed Daniel Lismore and Betony Vernon and was included in Lismore's exhibition of sustainable sculptures, When Gilbert and George cut the ribbon and opened the show.[21]

Bilehsavarchian pictured Exit, Voice, and Loyalty, based on the novel by the philosopher Albert O. Hirschman for 2020, before COVID because of Iran's sanctions which solved Iran's copyright problem. [22][19][23] His 2020 Punk, ware, and Persian Couture visuals were inspired by a treatise by Albert O. Hirschman.[24] Kim Gordon also supports his foundation.[25]

Bilehsavarchian writes academically on subjects such as fashion history, fashion industry sustainability, and the Anthropocene age for the Fashion Revolution (a book published) in Iran.[6] Bilehsavarchian also translated several books that were audited and not allowed to print in Iran.[21]

He is the Founder of the Salar Bil Foundation, which tries to shape discourse about fashion and its problems through articles, pictures, drawings, collages, clothes, and accessories.[26][27][28]

Bilehsavarchian's collection Bandar[29] was the first native fashion inspired by Global South and Afro-Iranians, Since his Ecofeminism collection he chose organic fabrics, He is also the freedom icon and one of intellectuals who fought for freedom.[30][31]

Advocacy

Bilehsavarchian is non-binary[3] and has paved the way for several queer people and empowered them as assistants and team workers.[6][13][32]

Since LGBTQIA and feminism are illegal in Iran, Bilehsavarchian has been introduced by Iran's press as a transgressive and a threat to the state. He is the first Iranian feminist fashion designer[32] and the man who foresaw the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.[22][33] He has also been labeled for cultural appropriation.[26] He was imprisoned by state artists and has been subject to sexual bullying.[5][6][7] His advocacy for freedom and street performances address multiple issues in Tehran, playing an active part in the region's rise of the #MeToo movement.[6] He was praised by Patti Smith as a master of punk literature,[24][34] she made him special gifts and empowered him as a punk literature icon and Christina Aguilera wrote him appreciation letters and a signature on his childhood painting of her.[6][7]

Salar Bil's articles like Marcel Duchamp's have become popular in the Western world and they have been used as trends for fashion companies by the support of Christina Aguilera and Erykah Badu, Bilehsavarchian has quickly covered the avant-garde artistic movements of his time and communicates with authors and fashion figures by writing articles. He is currently the ambassador of Tom of Finland.[23][35][36][37]
