Power Hero Corporation is an American clean-energy company that develops hardware and software solutions to help scale recharging infrastructure for battery-operated devices, particularly electric vehicles (EVs).[1] The company’s products enable tapping into existing power points connected to the electricity grid and making such points reservable for use by subscribers to their service. Subscribers may then reserve such power-points, as designated for specific devices, ranging from transportation devices such as EVs, e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-wheelchairs to portable electronic devices such as portable electronic oxygen breathing equipment for users with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), laptop computers and hand-held devices such as tablets and smartphones. Power Hero’s power-point enabling devices include the PowerPacTM, the CameoTM, the ePortTM, and mPowerTM, each of which is remotely reservable through an app that lists the power points open for charging at a particular moment.[2]

Overview

Power Hero was founded in January 2017 by Esmond Goei and was joined by Robert Kent in 2018 to focus on the EV market first.[3] Headquartered in La Verne, California,[4] Power Hero has achieved several significant milestones to make residential EV chargers available to everyone through its patented Cameo technology. The only company combining economy sharing and IoT to solve this problem, Power Hero focuses on scaling the existing grid with minimal infrastructure investments. A Power Hero host will not require replacing his/her entire EV charger. They just have to sign up for Power Hero’s PowerNet service as a Hero (host) after which they will get a small Cameo adapter in the mail that they just plug onto their charger’s J1772 nozzle which will make their charger reservable and compatible with any EV.[5]

A peer-to-peer (P2P) platform, Power Hero allows users to list existing electricity points so it can be reserved and used by drivers. Whether a private level-2 charger or a simple outdoor power outlet, the company makes existing infrastructure public with smart apps and simple, connected hardware. On the Power Hero network, EV charger owners can share their Cameo-equipped home charging stations giving subscribers ten times the number of accessible charger locations. Outdoor outlets equipped with Power Hero’s ePort can be listed for overnight parking allowing apartment dwellers to comfortably transition to driving EVs. Businesses with private EV chargers and outlets can also offer their power points on Power Hero’s network to be dynamically listed, found, reserved, and used.[6] Power Hero’s unique PowerPac product is particularly unique in that it can be connected to an ordinary 120V AC power-point to offer up to 100 miles of charging range by storing power when not in use and outputting fast 240V AC power when connected to the EV.

History

As of April 2023, Power Hero has attracted endorsements from three California cities eager to run pilots of Power Hero’s products. They are particularly keen on the PowerPac, a device that stores power and provides fast charging for electric vehicles, allowing the estimated 100 million apartment residents in America to have personal Level-2 “home charging” for their EVs. Unlike current Level-2 chargers in the market that requires connection to a 240V AC power source, PowerPac connects to any 120V circuit and outputs 240V Level-2 power.[7]

In February 2023, Power Hero was granted a fifth patent, a second one for its Cameo device.

In November 2022, Power Hero was granted an Australian patent for PowerNet and ePort.

In October 2022, Power Hero’s Cameo (prototype) was demonstrated to function flawlessly with two public Level-2 chargers and a Level-2 home charger.

In August 2022, a U.S. patent was issued for Power Hero’s mobile charging station.

In February 2021, Power Hero was granted a U.S. patent for Cameo.

In September 2020, Power Hero was granted a U.S. patent for its PowerNet network and ePort.

In February 2018, Power Hero began the development of its PowerNet cloud platform for its mobile app.

In December 2017, Power Hero established a partnership with Arrow Electronics for hardware sourcing, development, and middle-ware IoT support.

In June 2017, a working prototype of ePort was unveiled which converts an ordinary wall outlet into a smart reservable outlet.

In March 2017, IBM awarded Power Hero with free use of its cloud platform Bluemix.

In February 2017, Power Hero raised $150K in seed funding, just one month after incorporation.[8]

Products

Cameo Cameo adapter can turn any home charger into a networked one, allowing EV charger owners to monetize their charger while increasing the installed base of EV chargers for public usage.

PowerPac PowerPac is an ideal EV charging solution for older neighborhoods and multi-unit residencies lacking in electrical infrastructure to support the charging of EVs.[9]

mPower mPower is a mobile charging solution for EVs that are stranded or cannot easily get to a fixed charging station.

ePort ePort can turn any outlet into a cash-generating level 1 charger which is ideal for restaurants, cafes, and other public venues where users are stationary for extended periods.

PowerNet PowerNet allows access to Power Hero’s network of products to charge everywhere.[10]
