Founded in 1970, America's National Teen Scholarship Organization claims it is the oldest organization of its type, holding competitions across the United States.[1] The organization's official purpose is to award scholarships to outstanding young women and girls.[2] It holds public competitions, where competitors are judged, and the winner is awarded a crown, but it distinguishes itself from "beauty pageants" by not including a swimsuit competition, and by weighing the competitor's academic record.
