Kriti Sanon (born July 27, 1990) is an Indian actress and model. She has established herself as one of the most popular and highest-paid actresses in the Hindi film industry. Sanon has received several accolades, including a Filmfare Award, and has appeared in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2019.

Early life and education

Sanon was born and raised in New Delhi, India. Her father, Rahul Sanon, is a chartered accountant, and her mother, Geeta Sanon, is an associate professor at the University of Delhi. She has a younger sister named Nupur Sanon, who is also an actress. Sanon attended Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram and later pursued a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida. During her college days, she actively participated in modeling and fashion shows.

Career

Modeling and early acting career (2014–2016)

Sanon began her career as a model and made her acting debut in Telugu cinema with the psychological thriller film Nenokkadine (2014), opposite Mahesh Babu. Although the film received mixed reviews, her performance was praised, and she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. In the same year, she made her Hindi film debut with Sabbir Khan's action-romance film Heropanti, alongside Tiger Shroff. Her portrayal of the lead female character was well-received, and she earned a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Rise to prominence (2017–present)

Sanon gained wider recognition with her role in the romantic comedy film Dilwale (2015), which also starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Varun Dhawan. The film was a commercial success and Sanon's performance received positive reviews. She subsequently appeared in commercially successful films such as Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Luka Chuppi (2019), and Housefull 4 (2019), solidifying her position as a leading actress in Bollywood.

In 2019, Sanon starred in the historical period drama film Panipat, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. She portrayed the role of Parvati Bai, the wife of Sadashiv Rao Bhau, played by Arjun Kapoor. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Sanon's performance was praised for her portrayal of a strong female character. She also ventured into the action genre with the film Raabta (2017) and played a pivotal role in the comedy-drama film Bareilly Ki Barfi, which earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
