Greenfly Inc. is a SaaS company[1] that offers digital media content exchange and collaboration.[2][3] It enables organizations to manage photos and videos from their network of creators and share digital assets with the network to be shared on their personal social media channels.[4]

Overview

Greenfly is a workflow platform that relationship orchestrates the exchange of digital media asset[5] and that allows businesses to create, collaborate, and disseminate digital media assets to individuals or groups of any size[6][7][8] to increase their social media reach and engagement and attract audiences. Greenfly enables consumer brands as well as sports teams and leagues to aggregate photos and video and delivery them through a mobile app to support players’ presence on social media through real-time updates.[9][10] It allows organizations to crowdsource photos and videos and see where content is shared and tracks social media impressions and engagements.[6] Through Greenfly, a brand can collaborate with a network of athletes, influencers, endorsers, staff, and/or customers to create and simultaneously share thematically unified content, announcing a new product across multiple individual social accounts so recipients can share those assets on various social networks like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.[11][2]

The Greenfly platform includes a private group messaging to centralize communication across its network of advocates and keep communication effective. Customers manage all group messaging in one place, accessible by all Greenfly administrators, so messages never get lost.[12]

Greenfly has more than 44,000 users and works with over 500 organizations[13] in sports, media and entertainment, political campaigns,[14][3] social causes, and consumer brands,[15][16] including the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball,[6] National Hockey League,[17] and World Surf League.[15][10] It has worked on brand advocacy initiatives with multiple television networks, including Canal+, ESPN, BET, and Showtime.[18]

Headquartered in Santa Monica, California,[14] Greenfly has offices in Seattle, New York, and Paris.[6][19]

In 2020, Inc. magazine listed Greenfly on its annual Inc. 5000 list, among the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.[19][20][21]

History

Greenfly was founded on July 1, 2014, by Shawn Green,[1][22][23][24][25][2][14] an all-star major league baseball player[26] for 15 years, and Daniel Kirschner, a senior digital media executive and Internet policy official. Shawn Green came up with the idea of Greenfly after he hit a record four home runs in a 2002 Los Angeles Dodgers game. Rather than coordinating post-game interviews with several sports networks, he recorded a statement on his phone and sent it to multiple outlets. Realizing this could be done on a larger scale, Green and his cousin, Daniel Kirschner, launched Greenfly.[6][9][15]

In June 2017, the company partnered with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity to help power the content strategy for the event. Cannes Lions used the Greenfly to collate, create, and publish exclusive content captured during the Festival to the Cannes Lions app, website, and social media channels.[27]

In September 2019, Greenfly announced a strategic partnership with PhotoShelter at Content Marketing World to empower effortless content sharing across social media. This relationship united PhotoShelter's digital asset management platform for visual storytelling with Greenfly +Connect, which fully automated the last-mile content workflow for social media.[28] The same year, Greenfly also worked with BET on its brand advocacy program.[18]

In 2019, Greenfly was used for MLB's Player Social Program initiative, in which MLB’s marketing team provided players with photos, graphics, video, and other content. According to MLB, 468 players who appeared in the majors in 2019 participated in the program and saw a 24 percent uptick in posting relative to 2018, compared with a 9 percent decrease for nonparticipants.[29]

In late August 2021, the company announced an $8.4 million funding round to be utilized to expand its marketing and new partnerships. Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul invested in the round and joined the company as a Strategic Investor and Partner.[6][9][15] The funding round also included Verance Capital, Higher Ground Labs, DD Venture Capital, SW19 Ventures, LinkinFirm, Allievo Capital, Go4it Capital, Elysian Park Ventures, Alpha Edison, and Iconica Partners.[15][30]

The Greenfly Name

The name Greenfly was based on founder Shawn Green’s surname and the term greenfly, which is an informal term used by professional baseball players describing a light-touch favor.[24] “Hey, can you greenfly me some swag for my kid’s school auction? We need some signed bats and baseballs.”[5]

Philanthropy

Greenfly launched Greenfly for Good, a program that allows select organizations with special subscription access to the Greenfly platform. The company provides the training and onboarding assistance needed to exchange content and communicate with advocates, staff, supporters, and donors. Greenfly offers direct support to humanitarian organizations, disaster responders, community service providers, and research foundations for their positive impact on the world.[31]
