Graham Guest (born 1967) is a writer, musician, philosopher, professor, and lawyer. His novel, Winter Park, was on a three spot shortlist for the Sceptre Prize (UK) in Spring 2013; the novel itself was published in Spring 2016 by Atmosphere Press (Edity Group). Guest has published other works of fiction as well as works of creative non-fiction and philosophy.

Guest's band, Moses Guest, for which he is the lead lyric- and music-writer, was inducted into the Home Grown Music Network Hall of Fame in 2010, a distinction shared by only a handful of other bands. Moses Guest also won Best Improvisational Band in the Houston Press Music Awards 2005 (Houston, Tex.), Best Rock/Pop Band in the Houston Press Music Awards 2001, and MTV licensed two Moses Guest songs, "U 'N' Mi" and "Alabama", for background music on MTV's Real World – San Francisco.^{[citation needed]} Guest has published all Moses Guest music on Sclanard Music Publishing.

Education and career

Graham Guest was raised in Houston, Texas. Guest received a BA in philosophy from Wesleyan University (Conn.),^{[citation needed]}an MA in philosophy from Boston College, a JD (law) from University of Houston Law Center, an MFA in writing from California College of the Arts,^{[citation needed]}a PhD in English Literature (writing, literature, and theory emphases) from University of Glasgow ^{[citation needed]}(UK – Michael Schmidt, supervisor), and he is currently pursuing a PhD in philosophy (philosophy of mind – attention) at University of Birmingham (UK – Scott Sturgeon, supervisor).^{[citation needed]} Guest has been teaching in the Literature and Languages and Humanities Departments at Dominican University of California as adjunct since 2012. Guest is now finishing his philosophy PhD in Philosophy of Mind at University of Dundee ] Guest continues to write music for, and perform with Moses Guest.

Winter Park

Guest started writing Winter Park at California College of the Arts, largely under the mentorship of writer Miranda Mellis, and he finished Winter Park at the University of Glasgow under the mentorship of writer Michael Schmidt. Moses Guest

Graham Guest founded Moses Guest in 1995. Early members were John Chupin (drums), Sean Simon (bass), and Guest (Guitars, vocals, banjo). Current and long-time members (since 1996-1997) are Jeremy Horton (bass), James Edwards (drums, vocals), Rick Thompson (keyboards, vocals, guitars), and Guest. Moses Guest was named after Guest's fifth-generation grandfather, who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Moses Guest toured the United States from 1998 to 2004 and produced six studio albums and on DVD in the process: Geniality of Morality, American Trailer Home Blues, Live Stages, Moses Guest (self-titled double-CD album), Guest Motel, Edit (DVD), and Best Laid Plans Five of the albums were nationally and internationally distributed by Red Eye Distribution (North Carolina, USA) from 2000 to 2005.^{[citation needed]} During that period, the band also enjoyed national and international TV and press (magazine and newspaper) coverage, and radio-play on AAA, college, public, and satellite radio stations.^{[citation needed]} Moses Guest is now on Pandora, Spotify, among other online sources.

Over the years, Moses Guest has played festivals, such as HORDE Tour and Salmonfest, and has opened for Willie Nelson, Lisa Loeb, Moe., Darkstar Orchestra, Rebirth Brass Band, Vinyl, Carolyn Wonderland, JGB, New Master Sounds, Steve Miller Band, Los Lobos, Left Over Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, The Jayhawks, Colonel Bruce Hampton, Railroad Earth, and the David Nelson Band.^{[citation needed]}
