Francis Martin was an athlete.[1] He was the 1946 winner of USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Men's 5000m, 2 miles or 3 miles.

In 1993 the Los Angeles Times compared Martin with Ashley Selman, a college athlete whose speciality was the Javelin.[2] Selman had recently set a record, in her field, while a student at the University of Oregon, and had previously set a record when she was attending the University of Southern California. The article noted that Martin was one of only two men who had set records, for the same event, while attending two different institutions. He set records at Notre Dame University, and New York University, in 1944, 1945 and 1946, for two mile races. In 1944 he completed the race in 9:38.4 and in 1945 in 9:25.5.[3]
