A sister ship -- a McAllister Brothers tug, in its red livery, in NYC.

The Ellen McAllister is one of the 18 tugboats in the fleet operated by McAllister Brothers.[1] Most of the tug's efforts are confined to the harbor of New York City.

Vivian Yee profiled the tug and her crew in the New York Times on August 20, 2012.[1] She wrote that the crew worked off-and-on six hour shifts. She wrote that most of the McAllister's crews were not New Yorkers, their homes were elsewhere, and would live aboard their vessels for weeks at a time, traveling to their homes for the occasional leave.

The Ellen McAllister was previous YTB-793, a tug operated by the United States Navy.[2] Her engines produce 4,000 horsepower. She is propelled by z-drives.

In 2009 the tug won New York City's annual tugboat race competition for tugs over 2000 horsepower.[3]
