Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud is a Libyan who is alleged to alleged to have played a role in the 1988 bombing of an airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland.[1][2] The bombing is widely known by its flight number Pan Am flight 103.[3]

Mas’ud was imprisoned in Libya over unrelated charges in 2020 when US law enforcement officials began negotiating for Libya to allow him to be extradited to the United States, to stand trial.[2][4] Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation took him into custody, in Libya, on December 11, 2022.

Accoring to Adam Goldman, writing in the New York Times, Mas’ud confessed to his role in the bombing, while in Libyan imprisonment, and that legal experts suggested that confession would be ruled inadmissible.[2]

Much of the investigative work was done by Ken Dornstein, a documentary film-maker whose brother was a victim of the bombing.[4] Dornstein's documentary described how he found Mas’ud had been indicted in Germany for an earlier bombing.
