Nova Prime is a fictional character from the Shattered Glass Transformers series. Introduced as a character at Botcon 2008 as Optimus Prime, an evil version of the heroic Optimus Prime from a parallel dimension. He was later reformatted by a good fragment of Unicron and became the heroic Nova Prime.

Shattered Glass

A new Optimus Prime character appeared as the centerpiece for the 2008 BotCon exclusive toy set. This Optimus Prime leads the Autobots in a mirror universe where the Autobots are evil and the Decepticons are good.

Optimus carries a laser cannon and ion blaster which combine into a shoulder cannon.[1]

Fictional biography

Optimus Prime (2008) - During Cybertron's Golden Age of peace, an elite few served as the guardians of Cybertron's accumulated knowledge. Among these data clerks was Optronix. A low-level operator who sought to replace those above him, Optronix turned his research skills to finding methods of manipulation. Eventually, he rose to prominence; however, when his activities were uncovered, he was removed from service and left purposeless. Deep in his Ember though, Optronix believed he was best fit to lead Cybertron. He hungered for power and through his studies, he determined that military might was the only way to achieve his goals. Preaching a philosophy of destruction and conquest, he eventually began re-engineering his body as well as taking on a new name: Optimus Prime. He then began refashioning the bodies of his followers into weapons as well. Armed with weapons and a uniting philosophy, he declared his warriors autonomous from the rest of Cybertron and thus named them the Autobots!
Optimus Prime (2012) - During a major offensive in Sector 17 of the Mirtonian Quadrant, Optimus Prime was severely damaged and his Laser Core almost extinguished. Abandoned by his own warriors, he managed to drag himself to a CR Chamber in a remote outpost nearby. With the help of a local tech, he was able to fashion a new, upgraded body. Reborn, this body not only provided Optimus with more strength and faster processing power but it also affected his psyche making him believe that he was indestructible and the true embodiment of power. Returning to Polyhex, he destroyed several of the warriors who had abandoned him and re-established his role as leader. In addition to upgrading his body, Optimus also updated his weaponry by fashioning a sword out of the mysterious "G-Metal", allowing him to slice through enemies in a single blow.
Nova Prime - Nova Prime walks a fine line between being the leader his heritage demands and battling inner demons that threaten to tear his synaptic conscious to a psychotic breaking point. While his "accolades" will be remembered in the Halls of Iacon for eons, he is looking for redemption for what he sees as a "lapse in vision" for his fellow Cybertronians. Combining his Quantum Fusion Cannon and his "G-Metal" Battle Axe, Nova Prime is a formidable warrior on the battlefield and a master tactician in the war room. Nova Prime has been given a second chance and seeks to usher in a new Golden Age of Cybertron. Will a lasting peace on Cybertron finally come to fruition or will the whispers of the past come back to haunt Nova Prime, taking away any chance of redemption and plunging Cybertron once again into... Chaos?

Reception

The Botcon 2008 set was chosen as the "Action Figure Digest Hot Pick." This version of Optimus Prime was featured on their magazine cover.[2]

Fun Publications

Optimus Prime appears as leader of the Autobot forces in the Transformers: Timelines story "Shattered Glass" by Fun Publications. When Cliffjumper (actually the Generation 1 character from a parallel universe) is seemingly discovered alive, Optimus welcomes his old friend back to the Autobot fold. After learning that Clffjumper is not the evil Autobot he remembers, he shoots Cliffjumper and leaves him to fend for himself in the Rad Zone. Optimus plans to launch his new warship, the Ark, to conquer Earth, but Cliffjumper aids Megatron's heroic Decepticon forces in a successful an attack on the Ark's launch platform.[3]

Optimus Prime appears in the text-based fiction Dungeons & Dinobots. He commands the Autobots to attacked the Arch-Ayr fuel dump. The attack is thwarted when the main Decepticon forces are augmented by the Mayhem Suppression Squad. When Wheeljack attacks both the Autobots and Decepticons with a massive force of drone Dinobots, Optimus offers to allow the outcast Autobot scientist to rejoin the Autobot ranks if the Dinobots destroy the Decepticons. The Dinobots prove unstable and go on a rampage, attacking everyone - including each other. Optimus punishes Wheeljack by having Ratchet reformat him for Earth mode (painfully) and then assigning him to the Ark repair crew, on the advice of Side Burn. He punishes Blurr for allowing his heroic Decepticon cousin Crasher (part of the Mayhem Suppression Squad) to live. When Grimlock returns to the Autobots, Optimus lets him live because the Dinobot has gained a useful intelligence and helps in work on the Ark.

Megatron is captured by the Autobot Targetmasters in Do Over. When Optimus learns Megatron has been captured, he rushes to be the one who kills his old enemy, despite the closing launch window of the Ark. When confronted by Optimus Prime, Megatron attempts to use the Autobot Targetmaster Nightstick to shoot the Autobot leader, but Nightstick takes control of Megatron's arm. Megatron then tricks Optimus into using Megatron's own sword to cut Megatron's hand off, freeing him from Nightstick. Optimus fails to kill his foe and misses the launching of the Ark, which has been taken over by Rodimus. He then takes out his anger on Blurr.

In Reunification, Optimus is seen building his new ultimate weapon, Omega Doom. He learns that Megatron has supposedly been killed by watching a broadcast from the Autobot reporter Rook. When Kup leads the Autobots Camshaft, Hound and Warpath in an attempt to assassinate Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader easily defeats the four rebels. Alpha Trion then attempts to kill Optimus, but Optimus uses Omega Doom against the ancient mech. Prime then sends Doom against the Decepticons.

Optimus appears in a flashback in The Coming Storm, shooting Nightscream.

Optimus Prime appears in the 2012 BotCon Invasion lithograph by Casey Coller and Josh Perez.[4]

Nova Prime appeared in Another Light. Optimus Prime became Nova Prime when a good fragment of Unicron approached the defeated Optimus Prime and several of his dying Autobots with an offer of enlightenment. They were transported to Cybertron where they defeated Rodimus Prime and his Autobot forces. The Knights of Unicron were arresting the Shattered Glass Autobots when Unicron warned Nova Prime to be ready. Rodimus Prime returned, now allied with Primus, who transformed. Nova Prime ordered the Knights to attack Primus in the eyes before escaping into space. The Knights of Unicron were appointed as guardians of New Cybertron.[5]
