Commander is a fictional character made by Mastermind Creations in 2010 as a third-party Transformer. He is an homage to the 1984 Transformers Autobot Optimus Prime.

Mastermind Creations

Commander is based on concept art of Optimus Prime for the Hearts of Steel comic book series.

Commander is the leader of the Knight Morphers. He once went through a purging process to rid his ember of darkness. Another Knight Morpher named Ultra is the next in line to lead the Knight Morphers. The enemies of the Knight Morphers are Cyclops and the other Eliminators, as well as Ultra's evil clone Annhilator.[1]

Other third-party Transformers inspired by Optimus Prime include iGear's Faith Leader, Junkion Blacksmith's Justice Leader and Xovergen's Grand Patriot.

Development

The toy that would become the Mastermind Creations Commander was designed in 2008 as a custom Transformer model by sculptor Eric Chan, which he sold as the HOS01. This design was sold to Mastermind Creations.[2]

Reception

In the WTF@TFW podcast for July 9th, 2009 Commander was selected as one of the New Picture Picks.[3]

Commander was featured in the 2013 toy reference book Transforming Collections by Philip Reed.[4]
