Defender of the Universe

The Third Dimension

In Voltron: The Third Dimension, Zarkon masquerades as a reformed character and member of the Galaxy Alliance, though in reality he continues his scheming to conquer the universe.

Voltron Force

Zarkon is completely absent from Voltron Force, but is presumably deceased or imprisoned with no plans made for his rescue due to Lotor assuming the title of king.

Legendary Defender

In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Zarkon is depicted as the Emperor of the entire Galra Empire, having once been the Black Paladin of Voltron and thus the former pilot of the Black Lion. At some point he betrayed his comrades and led the Galra Empire in an assault on the planet Altea in a bid to claim Voltron for himself and become unstoppable; King Alfor managed to thwart his designs by scattering the lions and hiding the Castle of Lions and Allura away on Arus, while leading Zarkon to believe that they had been destroyed. Unfortunately, this left Zarkon with little to stand in his way as he led the empire in the conquest of much of the known universe, and with Haggar's aid he acquired Quintessence energy that not only fueled his efforts of conquest but also allowed him to remain in his prime over the course of 10,000 years. Eventually he learned of the continuing survival of the Voltron Lions, and set out to claim them and make his powers complete.

Zarkon's plans would suffer interference due to Allura assembling a new team of paladins made up of humans from Earth, who managed to defeat Zarkon's valued commander Sendak on two occasions. However, he remained confident in his ability to defeat them and claim Voltron, even when his subordinate Prorok acted against his orders. After his forces managed to capture Allura, he had Hagar and her Druids amplify his connection to the Black Lion in order to seize it and break Voltron apart. However, he was prevented from reclaiming it by Keith, whom he engaged in a duel; despite not piloting the Black Lion or a similar vehicle, he proved more than capable of handling the Red Lion armed only with the Black Bayard. Their battle was interrupted when a mysterious Galra managed to shut down the security field keeping the pilots trapped in the vicinity of Zarkon's space fortress, enabling them to escape.
