Sio Tak Hong (Chinese: 蕭德雄, November 20, 1962); born in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, China) is a politician of the People's Republic of China, a member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Chief Executive Election Committee, and a prominent businessman in Hong Kong and Macao. Sio has a wide range of businesses, and is a property developer, investor, and philanthropist. His financial interests include property development, infrastructure and services, gaming, hotels, environmental protection, and other businesses. He is the Vice Chairman of South Bay Development Company Limited and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Senki Development Company Limited and Fortune Hotel Macau Limited.[1] He was also the Chairman of Koon Chung Properties Group in 2009,[2] and resigned in 2021.[3] He is the founding president of the Macau Jiangmen Clansmen Association, an honorary citizen of Jiangmen City, and the permanent honorary president of the Jiangmen Charity Association.[4]

Career

After graduating from high school in 1980, he worked as a chef in the restaurant of the "Guangdong-China Company" in Jiangmen, became the manager of the restaurant in the same year, and then became the general manager of the company in 1984. The first key performance target after opening was to break even within 3 months, which was accomplished within 1 month. By chance, he learned about color photofinishing technology from Hong Kong, when most of the photos in China were still in the "black and white world", so he started his own business in 1985 and opened the only photo studio in Jiangmen.

Opening a garment factory in Haiti

In 1987, he set his eyes on the other side of the ocean in the Caribbean Islands of Haiti, which had not yet established diplomatic relations with China. With a workforce of about 1,000 employees, the factory sells garments made in Haiti from South Africa, and the fabrics are imported from China to make garments in Haiti, and 100% of them are exported to the United States. Due to the sudden military dispute in Haiti, the president went into exile in the United States, and the factory was robbed of all the garments.

Collaboration with Macau gambling tycoon Stanley Ho

Afterwards, he decided to sell his factories in Haiti and return to Macau to invest in real estate, and in 1990, he partnered with Macau gambling tycoon Stanley Ho and other wealthy businessmen to build a 130-hectare reclamation project at Nam Van Lake. The project involved reclamation (50 hectares), construction of an artificial lake (80 hectares), construction of major roads, major sewerage interceptors, major storm water drainage channels, parking lots (4,750 public parking spaces; 7,060 private parking spaces), 45 buildings (6 hotels; 35 office, commercial and residential buildings; 4 government office facilities). The project was developed independently in 1991 with a land area of approximately 77,000 square feet and an area of approximately 1,200,000 square feet.

After the opening of gambling rights, a total of 21 consortia bid for the project, and St. Mary's Bay was officially led by Joseph Lau Luen-hung.

Mainland investment

Since 2008, he has invested in the environmental protection and medical health industries in Guangdong Province, "New Fortune Environmental Protection Industrial Park", with more than 100 enterprises and over 10,000 employees. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Xiao also actively contributes to the society and makes outstanding contributions to the development of education, medical care and poverty alleviation in the motherland, and has been appointed as a special researcher of the World Development Institute of the Development Research Center of the State Council and vice president of the Martyrs Foundation of the Ministry of Public Security.

Donation of Liang Qichao's Manuscripts

In 2013, on the 140th anniversary of the birth of Liang Qichao, Mr. Xiao Dexiong donated the manuscript of "A Treatise on the History of European Warfare" and its four calligraphic screens, which he obtained at auction, to the Jiangmen City Museum.[5]

On the title page of the manuscript, Liang Qichao wrote that the book was written for his 15-year-old son, Liang Sicheng. The four calligraphic works of Mr. Liang Qichao are all in regular script, with sharp and clear dots, and a dignified and majestic ending.

Selected as one of Guangfu's "Double Ten"

The first World Guangfu People's Convention (WGC) was held on November 12, 2013 at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou, and the first Guangfu People's "Top Ten Outstanding People" and "Top Ten Outstanding Youths" were awarded. Deputy Commissioner Huang introduced the disaster situation in Sichuan and the situation of China's military and civilian efforts in the earthquake relief. The Honorary Consuls in Australia expressed their gratitude for the touching television footage of the military and civilians in China fighting the earthquake. The torch of the 16th Asian Games came to Jiangmen, the 19th stop in Guangdong Province, to start the relay. Jiangmen Olympic gymnastics champion Li Shanshan started as the first torchbearer, then Li Hongli passed the torch to Xiao Dexiong, the founding president of Macau Jiangmen Clansmen Association, who is passionate about charity in his hometown, and Xiao Dexiong passed it to Liang Renkan, the grandson of Liang Qichao, the 79th batonbearer, who lit the torch with the 80th batonbearer, Liu Hai, the acting mayor of Jiangmen.
