The Frst (pronounced ‘first’) is a collaborative musical project founded by singer/guitarist Mikei Gray in 2017.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

History

Prior to forming The Frst, band leader Mikei Gray had experience touring alongside acts like Portugal. The Man, Sublime With Rome, and Florida Georgia Line,[2][3][4][5][9][6][8] and performing in venues such as The Grand Ole Opry and the Vans Warped Tour. In 2017, Mikei met the contributing members of The Frst in Nashville, TN, including Nathan Cogan (Taking Back Sunday), Jeff Hutchins (Insane Clown Posse), and Andrew Leahey, among others,[5][9][10] though he still wrote and performed seven of the ten songs on their first album, Prelude, himself.[2][3][11]

The Frst released several singles from their debut album Prelude throughout 2019 and 2020, including “Ammo” which climbed to No.1 on Soundcloud's USA Rock Chart (New and Hot)[2][3][5][9][7][8][11] and “Tarantino”, which climbed to #19 on Laguna Beach, California’s legendary KXFM.[4][11]

In Spring 2020, The Frst released a free augmented reality phone app titled, "The Frst,” which allows fans to scan their logo for access to behind the scenes content.[12][13][9][8] This app was noted as being the first of its kind for a rock band.[13][11]

Other notable contributors include mixing engineers Steve Hardy (Jay Z, Alicia Keys), James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Dashboard Confessional) and veteran mastering engineer Andy VanDette (David Bowie, The Beastie Boys, Rush).[2][3][4][9][7][8][11]
