Accurate at the time

One phrase that keeps recurring in her colleagues' defences of her was that her reporting on the Richard Jewell case was that "it was accurate at the time it was written"

I believe it is possible to write material, on controversial topics, that is, essentially timeless.

Maybe journalists can't afford to bring that level of balance to their writing. But I think wikipedia contributors can and should aim for a level of balance in their writing such that, if new more reliable sources emerge, that largely contradict the original sources, the wikipedia's original coverage can be left, as is, merely being supplemented by the new sources, and without the new sources requiring a total rewrite.
