Fictional biography

The Transformers: Another of the new Autobots brought to life by the final, energetic bursts from the Allspark, Salvage doesn’t really have a lot of ambition. Before being brought to life, he worked with Sparkplug & Son Salvage, and he’s pretty sure he was happy then. He’s certain he’s happy now, with a load of scrap in the back, and Sparkplug’s hands in their accustomed place on his worn old steering wheel. It’s a simple life, but it’s one he prefers to hunting Decepticons and fighting all the time.
Power Core Combiners: Salvage has gone through a lot since the Allspark first brought him to life. A few rounds of upgrades brought his vehicle mode into the modern era, and the Power Core process powered him up to unheard of levels. He'd still rather be back at the junkyard, but if the Decepticons want a fight, he's ready to give them one.

Books

Salvage appears among the Autobot members of N.E.S.T. in the book Transformers: The Veiled Threat by Alan Dean Foster. He helped fight the Decepticons Tread and Trample in Australia. He also helped fight the Decepticons in Rome.[1]

Transformers: Rescue Bots

Animated series

A new version of Salvage appears in Transformers: Rescue Bots as a new recruit to the Rescue Bots, along with Blurr. The pair were once crewmates aboard a Cybertronian vessel, with Blurr acting as pilot and Salvage working as a loader; the pair were not particularly close, with Salvage once remarking "You did your job, I did mine" in describing their relationship. During their last voyage in this capacity, they were forced to land on Earth due to a meteor, which threatened a tribe of primitive humans living on an island where they made planetfall. While Salvage set about rescuing the people and getting them on a raft to float to safety, Blurr let to find one who had gone missing; his delayed return led Salvage to set the raft adrift, before going looking for the missing human and Blurr.

Finding the human, Salvage gave him an Energon amulet for protection, unaware that it would keep him alive after he became frozen in ice for centuries. Salvage then found Blurr attempting to launch their ship and leave without him, which so enraged him that he attacked his cowardly comrade. The impact of meteors then became so damaging that the two were forced to enter stasis in order to survive, and remained inactive for hundreds of years. Eventually they were found by Rescue Team Sigma-17 and the Burns family, who had previously discovered the human, whom they named Ira, that Salvage had rescued centuries before. They awakened Blurr and Salvage only for the latter to prove somewhat amnesiac; damage to his stasis pod resulted in him losing his memory of what had happened after they had landed on Earth.

Blurr and Salvage were recruited to train with the rescue team, and Salvage-who appreciated the human concept of recycling-took on the form of a recycling truck. He adapted well to being part of the team, unlike Blurr, who demonstrated a lack of regard for authority or the humans of Griffin Rock. Eventually the truth behind Blurr's actions so long ago came out, but Salvage proved willing to forgive Blurr despite his partner's transgressions. The pair were eventually reassigned to work with other Rescue Bot recruits in another location by Optimus Prime, but kept in touch with their old teammates. Later they would work together with Hightide, an old colleague of Optimus', to save inhabitants of Griffin Rock and restore the island to its proper place after it was inadvertently teleported to the Arctic.

Some years later, Salvage and Blurr took part in the construction of a Rescue Bots academy on the mainland United States.
