Right to work

Right to work refers to the liberalization of union and corporate enterprise agreement laws in the United States. Unions argue against the reform on the basis of the free-rider argument, claiming that non-union workers will receive all of the benefits of unionisation without the cost associated with being a member.

Causes

Liberalization of industrial relations laws are due to the lengthy and ongoing recession in the United States, and in the west generally. As more and more people are unable to find jobs, the place of unions becomes more and more a barrier to entry. This reporter argues that unions are a product of bull markets, and are expensive and burdensome to run in times of economic shortage.
