René Roberts-Patel (born December 3, 1976) also known as @IAmReneRP and the South African TV Gladiator Lightning. René is a South African-born entrepreneur, actor, model, personal trainer, digital marketer, and wellness influencer.

Highlights of her career include being one of the original members of the South African MTN Gladiators an award-winning TV reality show together with assignments with top International Fashion brands.[1] René has also competed in several local South African and International beauty pageants with the most recent being a contestant at the Mrs Globe 2017 event held in China.[2] A highlight of her career was working alongside international superstar actors Tom Cruise and Paula Patton during the filming of the box office smash hit “Mission Impossible 4

Early Life and Education

René Roberts-Patel was born in Cape Town, South Africa on December 3, 1976. Her mother worked as a Laboratory Assistant and her Father a renowned Marine Engineer. She attended early schooling on Cape Flats, and then went on to study Local Government Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Career

From her early teens, René started entering beauty pageants and has to date won well over 100 different titles. A combination of event prizes consisting of both monetary and international holidays gave René the motivation to keep going and in 2016, René placed Top 6 in the Mrs. South Africa pageant and also was awarded the very prestigious title of Mrs. SA public choice.[3][4]

In 2017, Rene was nominated as the Mrs. Africa Globe and had the opportunity to represent the entire African continent at the International Mrs. Globe Pageant in China. Besides placing 3rd in the Mrs. Globe 2017 pageant, René was also awarded the Contestants choice and the Magic award which was the theme of the 20th anniversary of the Mrs. Globe pageant, a very special award as it was chosen by the president of the Mrs. Globe organization herself.


By the age of 20, René Roberts-Patel had secured a major win by appearing in the reality game show The MTN Gladiators. The show amassed weekly audiences of millions and went on to become one of South Africa’s most popular shows.

Her prowess in front of the camera led René to bag a stunt double role in the box office smash hit “ Mission Impossible 4” which was filmed on location in the United Arab Emirates.

By 2013 having perfected the art of multi-tasking René also qualified as a Certified Power Plate instructor to keep in line with her Health and Fitness mantra. This led her to set up her own fitness studios in South Africa and Mauritius called Mi-Gym.

Having lived on several continents, René also learned to embrace various cultures and cuisines which inspired her to create a revolutionary food condiment called PIMO -A Chilli sauce unlike any other. René soon built up an ardent fan base that has led to the consistent growth in sales revenues.

Being born and brought up on the Cape Flats has played a large part in the woman that René is today. It has taught her the art of resilience and growing against all odds. It has also taught her to be patient, strong, and to never stop believing in oneself but still ensuring no one else is left behind. The ability to empower others is a core strength that René possesses. She has worked tirelessly in raising funds for Cancer patient treatments through organizations such as CANSA and #61116

Her passion is also to ensure that every child learns to read. She is currently the Ambassador for “Read to Rise”, a literacy program endorsed by the department of basic education in South Africa.[5]

Today René takes her knowledge and professionally shares it via Digital and Social Media marketing. Her audience appreciates the genuine information she gives on her chosen subjects such as Female Empowerment, Health and Wellness, and Early Education.

René Roberts-Patel is married to Alpesh H Patel, they have 3 daughters and now live in the United Kingdom.
