Mounir El Motassadeq was a Moroccan student, studying in Germany, who was a friend of Mohammed Atta and other 9-11 hijackers.[1] German authorities charged him with membership in a terrorist organization and accessory to murder. He was initially convicted of the membership charge, and acquitted of accessory to murder. The prosecution appealed his acquittal on the accessory to murder charge, and it was overturned on November 16, 2006.

Motassadeq met and became friends with Atta, Marwan al Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah, while studying in Hamburg, Germany.[1] He acknowledged receiving military training at an Afghan training camp, but denied knowing that his friends were planning a terrorist attack.
