History

Unicron Trilogy

Animated series

In Transformers: Armada, the Mini-Cons were were created by Unicron, and later sought by him in order to enable his revival from his dormant state. They also were caught up in the Great War between the Autobots and Decepticons, the former seeking to protect them while the latter coveted their power. This led the Mini-Cons to depart Cybertron, with many of them ending up on Earth and going dormant. However, the Autobots and Decepticons eventually followed them there, and the conflict was renewed with various Mini-Cons siding with either faction.

In Transformers: Energon the role of the Mini-Cons was greatly reduced, with the only ones featured being the Energon Saber Team.

In Transformers: Cybertron Mini-Cons were featured more heavily, with a group led by Jolt and Vector Prime's companion Safeguard having recurring roles. More Mini-Cons also appeared on Giant Planet, where they were the companions and helpers of the resident giant Transformers. The two groups developed in this fashion to complement each other: the giants could lift enormous loads and build gigantic structures while the Mini-Cons handled the delicate detail work in the interiors.

Transformers: Timelines

Classics

In the Classics universe of Transformers: Timelines, in the story Transformers: The New World, the Mini-Cons were created not by Unicron but by the Last Autobot, in order to restore a war-ravaged Cybertron while he sought out the inhabitants who had abandoned it to ruin. Under the leadership of Modus Prime, the Mini-Cons battled the Mutants who infested Cybertron and sought to restore it to its former glory. Unfortunately, a faction of them led by one called Broadside came to fear that once they had restored the planet and the Autobots returned, they would be reabsorbed into the Last Autobot and cease to exist. They thus rose up in rebellion, killing Modus and sparking a civil war between the Mini-Cons; their concern later became a moot point as the Classics reality was destroyed by the actions of Ultra Magnus.

Aligned Continuity

Animated series

In Robots in Disguise, a number of Mini-Cons are featured, most of them having been prisoners aboard the Alchemor. Notable exceptions to this are Micronus Prime, the first Mini-Con; Jetstorm and Slipstream, Mini-Cons under the tutelage of Drift; and Divebomb and Airazor, though this latter pair were later imprisoned with the Alchemor's original inmates.

Books

In Transformers: The Covenant of Primus, Micronus was introduced as the original Mini-Con and one of the Thirteen Primes created by Primus. In a nod to his Armada brethren, he had the ability to increase the powers of his fellow Primes, such as granting Solus Prime added power in her forging processes.
