Port Credit streetcar at the Long Branch loop, 1935.

Early in the 20th Century there was a Mimico - Port Credit streetcar.[1][2][3] The line ran from the west bank of the Humber River to the east bank of the Credit River. It was originally planned to run all the way to Hamilton, Ontario.

The Toronto and Mimico Electric Railway and Light Company was incorporated to build and operate the line to serve lakeshore communities west of Toronto.[1] It secured the passage of Provincial and County statutes to expropriate land for stations and rights of way. Construction started in 1891, but by 1893 the route had only been built from Queen Street and Roncesvalles Avenue to Humber Bay, before its funds were exhausted. The Company ws then acquired by William MacKenzie, and construction continued westward, through Mimico, New Toronto, reaching Long Branch in 1895.

In 1903 the Company was authorized to expand further west, and connect with other railways.[1] It changed its gauge from the unique Toronto broad gauge to standard gauge. It reached an agreement with the Hamilton Radial Electric Railway to connect Hamilton and Toronto
