Windsor's only fireboat, the 'Marine 1', in 1968.

The Marine 1 was a small fireboat operated by the Fire Department of Windsor, Ontario.[1] Windsor is across the Detroit River, from Detroit, Michigan, and, for most of its history Detroit fireboats crossed the river to help fight waterfront fires in Windsor. But, in July 1967, Windsor acquired a 28 foot former recreation vessel, fitted it with a water cannon, and named it "Marine 1".

According to the Windsor Fire and Rescue Services site[1]:

"Over the next decade Marine I responded to numerous incidents on the Canadian side of the Detroit River, where it was used for water rescue work and recovery operations by the Windsor Fire Department Scuba Team, as well as the Windsor Police."[1]

The vessel was retired in the 1980s, after the Canadian Coast Guard and the Ontario Provincial Police were providing a greater riverine presence.[1]
