Ismaila Alfa is a Canadian radio broadcaster who has been host of local morning show Metro Morning on CBC Radio One station CBLA-FM in Toronto since August 24, 2020. Previously, he was the host of Up to Speed, the CBC Radio One afternoon drivetime show in Manitoba.[1]

Alfa was born in Zaria, Nigeria to a Nigerian father and Canadian mother.[2] He and his family moved to Edmonton when he was eight years old,[1] and then to Pipestone, Manitoba where he finished middle school and attended high school.[2][3]

He enrolled in the University of Manitoba, where he studied civil engineering but dropped out to tour Canada and the United States as a hiphop musician for almost a decade.[2][3]

Alfa joined the CBC Radio in Winnipeg in 2008 as an intern, and worked first as an audio technician and then a traffic reporter on the morning show Information Radio, and then as a traffic reporter.[2] He went on to host the local arts and culture show Scene and then Up to Speed,[1] from 2013 until 2020, taking the show to the number one position in the Winnipeg afternoon radio market.[2]

After being one in series of guest hosts of Metro Morning after long-time host Matt Galloway left to host The Current, Alfa was announced as Galloway's successor in July 2020, with August 24, 2020 as his first day as permanent host.
