Fictional biography

Beast Wars: Profile: Fractyl is a pawn in a war of ideals. While Megatron pushes him to be a warrior in his universe-dominating army, Fractyl is more concerned with solving the problems caused by the strange planet's surplus of Energon. Upon his emergence from the reprogrammed stasis pod, he immediately knelt to the ground collecting, collating, and analyzing the geologic make-up of the area. Megatron wanted to slag him where he stood. Although extremely useful in other technical areas, Fractyl is a geochemist at heart and it is in the field where he spends most of his time. Megatron and the other Predacons prefer it that way. He is tolerated as long as he keeps his distance or if another team member wants to use him to their advantage. When forced with confrontation, Fractyl prefers to think situations through before using violence as his last resort. He believes there are too many interesting natural phenomena around the planet to investigate and would rather study them in peace. He often flies alone to solve current problems and get peace and quiet. However, Megatron insists that he takes a stronger interest in the affairs of the Beast Wars. Focusing on the Energon deposits provides Fractyl with the opportunity to contribute to the Predacon cause and conduct immensely stimulating scientific research. At times, Fractyl puts his own need for higher knowledge and acceptance at the expense of himself and his teammates. The Energon armor, devised after a meteor impact yielded a new power source (Furmanite), was his best, but not last, attempt at resolving their recurring overload problems, thereby earning the others' respect.

Abilities: In beast mode, Fractyl can travel distances well in excess of 1000 km, before resting. He has twin aft-mounted boosters. operating with the aid of the planet's Energon field, which can propel him up to speeds of 250 kph. Fractyl's neural network has the capacity to store 100 exobytes of information. His Energon armor, in robot mode, can repel fields up to 10 gigajoules per square centimeter, and subsequently can last infinitely longer in robot mode than all other Maximals or Predacons. Fractyl uses an augmented quark disrupter to break any target into its constituent subatomic particles.

Weaknesses: Fractyl is in constant search of acceptance from his Predacon teammates. Blinded by this need, he may make foolish choices resulting in more problems. The Energon armor works well with small to moderate doses of the energy source, but behaves violently when placed within range of raw Energon. The resulting Energon-anti-Energon reaction ends in a detonation with the force of a thousand tons of explosives, destroying both the armor and the host.
Timelines: As a scientist, FRACTYL was an anomaly among the PREDACONS. Favoring brute force as a method of subjugating their opponents, the PREDACONS seemed to have little use for carefully thought out strategies and highly technical weaponry. After the destruction of the Cybertronian wars, FRACTYL set out among the stars to find a new home where his scientific acumen would be appreciated. However, upon entering the atmosphere of a previously uncharted planet, FRACTYL crash-landed and was discovered by the native lifeforms – a primitive race of mechanoids in the early stages of evolving a techno-organic conversion ability. FRACTYL’S geological experiments established him as a sort of deity to these mechanoids – much to his chagrin. FRACTYL has retained his Cybertronian jet mode and made modifications to better suit the atmosphere of his new home. Unlike his fellow PREDACONS, FRACTYL’S weapons are more defensive in nature.

Comics

3H Enterprises

Fractyl was one of the stars of the 1997 BotCon comic, a story set near the end of season one of the Beast Wars television series. In the plot, Inferno and Blackarachnia watched as the Predacon scientist Fractyl attempted to invent Energon Armor capable of protecting them from energon build up. Although seemingly successful, the armor was stolen by the Maximal thief Packrat. Blackarachinia and Fractyl realized the energon armor was flawed and could destroy the planet if it came in contact with large amounts of energon. Inferno pursued Packrat, but since Packrat didn't need to assume beast mode with the armor on, he got the upper hand in the fight with Inferno. Hearing the battle, Airazor, Cheetor and Rhinox joined Packrat. Fractyl convinced Rhinox that the armor was a threat to them all. Rhinox was able to talk Packrat into giving up the armor, which Fractyl aided them in doing. When Blackarachnia arrived with Megatron, Packrat suggested that Fractyl pretend to be attacking the Maximals, who fled. Megatron was impressed with Fractyl's new found battle prowess.

Fractyl appeared in the flash animation for the story "Primeval Dawn", later joining Primal Prime's crew of Wreckers.[1]

Fun Publications

Fractyl later appeared as part of another team of Wreckers in the Transformers: Timelines Of Master and Mayhem storyline, in which he and his teammates united to form Wreckage. A Predacon, he survived Thunder Mayhem's destruction of Cybertron and, after helping other refugees, ended up crash-landing on an Energon rich, dinosaur-inhabited planet in a stasis pod. Captured by the local Vespoids, he was saved by a group of female Cybertronians, the Raptoricons, who took him back to their ship. After getting to know the group, Fractyl joined them in fighting off an attack by the Vespoids, who abducted Raptoricon Gnash. Fractyl and the team's junior member, Shred, then began looking into a curious mineral native to the planet, which Fractyl determined was a new strain of Energon.

Discovering that the Vespoids were dependent on this "Greenergon", Fractyl adopted a pterodactyl alternate form in order to persuade several of the local creatures to help transport a large quantity to the Vespoid nest. This eventually led to a peace between the Vespoids and Raptoricons, whose teammate Gnash needed Greenergon to function properly. Fractyl was then recruited to join the Wreckers by Impactor, who arrived in a ship with Counterpunch. After being returned to his previous body with a jet alternate mode, he learned of their intended mission: taking on Thunder Mayhem. The group soon recruited another member, Toxitron, who disturbed his new teammates by being amused at the fact that they were recruiting one monster to stand against another.

Fractyl had a biography printed in the Beast Wars Sourcebook by IDW Publishing. [2]
