William Hay Meikle

William Hay Meikle was employed by D.A. Thomas, in northern Alberta, early in the 20th century, when the region was only beginning to be connected to southern industry. His boss was developing coal fields on the remote upper Peace River. He built a large sternwheel steamboat on the upper river. Meikle captured a series of historic photos showing the progress of the construction of this vessel in the 1916-1917 period. When the vessel was complete Meikle served as the vessel's purser.

The historical record does not show what Meikle did before or after his work on the upper river, but it is known he passed away in 1954, in Halfmoon Bay, BC,
