The quadratic formula is the mathematical formula used to find the two real and distinct, real and identical, or imaginary and distinct roots of a quadratic equation of the form ax^2+bx+c.

The quadratic formula is -b±(b^2-4ac)/2a and the discriminant which determines what type of roots the equation will have is b^2-4ac.

Value of b^2-4acType of solution
> 0Real and distinct roots
= 0Real and identical roots
< 0Imaginary and distinct roots
