Sarajudim is a citizen of Afghanistan who was held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba.[1]

Missing from the official list

Initially the Bush administration tried to keep the identities of the Guantanamo detainees secret, filing legal appeals when elements of the US Government's judicial branch issued rulings that more information about the detainees' identities had to be made public. In the winter of 2003 the Department of Defense exhausted all their legal appeals to resist responding to Freedom of Information Act requests from the Associated Press. A court order from US District Court Justice Jed Rakoff compelled the DoD to release the detainees' identities to the Associated Press by 6 pm March 3 2006.

The Department of Defense released documents to the Associated Press later on the evening of March 3rd. They released two, inconsistent lists of detainee's identities on April 20 2006 and May 15 2006.[2][3]

Although the Department of Defense described the May 15th list as a full list of all the Guantanamo detainees who had been held in military custody Sarajudium's name is not on the list.

Release

Sarajudium was one of the first detainees to be released, being released on March 22 2003.
