MB-001 Maschinen

The MSM-001 Maschinen is the mobile suit piloted by Melissa Newmann, the main protagonist of After Torment: Sterne Nachte. A machine designed as a tool of war, the Maschinen does not play any significant role in the story.

History

The Maschinen was created in the colony of America after World War II. Equipped with a special device known as the "Moonlight Butterfly", the suit was never put to use for unknown reason, and the same goes for its creation, though it can be speculated that the machine was designed for civilian use.

Years later, the mobile suit would be discovered by a young girl named Melissa Newmann, who became its pilot in order to escape from Clarissa Smithson, a cruel, sadistic girl who had constantly tormented her.

Technology and Combat Characteristics

The Maschinen's only weapons are the "beam magnums" installed in its manipulator units. The suit's Moonlight Butterfly system is not to be confused with the weapon installed in the [∀-99 ∀ Gundam], which goes by the same name, despite having similar effects. The Maschinen's Moonlight Butterfly system, when activated, functions as type of ["electric solar sail"], by generating an modified I-field combined with focused plasma in the form of a large pair of white, feathered wings, which can propel the suit at high speeds. The "wings" can also absorb the reflected light emitted from the Moon, hence its name.
