King Atlas is a fictional character from the Transformers series. He was introduced in 2004 and is an Autobot who turns into a jet, but has no personal biography at the time. He would later make brief appearances in comics, where his character was developed. The King Atlas of the Transformers should not be confused with the King Atlas character who was released in some countries as part of the Micronauts toyline.

Transformers: Universe

King Atlas is a colossal Autobot who fights alongside Optimus Primal against the hordes of Unicron. Although King Atlas never received a tech spec of his own, he is mentioned in the Tech Spec for Depth Charge, which says Depth Charge "volunteered to assist King Atlas in operating and maintaining a refugee network within the monster planet himself."

Hasbro announced the King Atlas figure at it's panel at Wizard World 2003.[1]

Hasbro registered the name King Atlas for US Trademark in October of 2003.[2]

3H Enterprises

King Atlas appeared among the many prisoners of Unicron who escaped with the help of Optimus Primal in Transformers: Universe #2.[3]

3H writers noted that King Atlas was going to become a much more prominent character in the Universe comics, leading an "underground railroad" that would free the untold numbers of Cybertronians who had been kidnapped by Unicron. This, of course, never came to be due to the bankruptcy of 3H, though King Atlas would apparently have received aid from the Beast Wars Maximal Depth Charge.

Fun Publications

In the comic story found in issue #8 of the Transformers Collectors Club magazine Cybertron/Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime told the story of the last battle he was in, set in the Transformers: Universe storyline. Alongside 10th Anniversary Optimus Primal they attacked the last of Unicron's forces when Unicron suddenly disappeared, and they barely escaped. Among the Autobot forces was King Atlas.

In the story Force of Habit it was revealed that King Atlas was the leader of the Autobots on planet Combatron in the Unicron Trilogy setting, but he had disappeared long ago, which lead the planet into chaos.[4][5] "Ask Vector Prime" also revealed that he became a member of the Matrix Templars following the deaths of Magnaboss and Rodimus Major alongside Sentinel Maximus. It was also revealed that an alternative King Atlas was not snatched away from his home by Unicron, and thus was able to aid Optimus Prime's forces during the quest for the Omega Lock.
