Kellie Chauvin is an American radiology technician and former Mrs Minnesota beauty pageant.[1]H

She arrived in the USA as a refugee from South-east Asia, from the Hmong ethnic group. When she was chosen as a beauty queen, at 42, she described feeling unattractive, as a teenager.

She described an abusive early marriage. Her family pressured her to marry another Hmong refugee when she was just 17 years old. She has two adult children from this marraige. Despite giving birth to two children Kellie was able to complete a college degree, and become a radiology technician. Her first husband, on the other hand, did not cope well with America, and he died not long after their marriage ended.

It was while working in a hospital emergency room, in 2010, that she met her second husband, Police officer Derek Chauvin, when he brought in a suspect, for a medical treatment. She describes being impressed by his kindness, and they soon married.

Kellie switched careers, from radiology, to real estate.

She entered the Mrs USA pageant system, and gave multiple interviews after being chosen as 2018's Mrs Minnesota. In those interviews she described her second husband, Derek, as a sweet and loving man.

On May 25, 2020, a concerned bystander recorded an 8 minute and 46 second video that seemed to show her husband, supported by three more junior officers, methodically choking George Floyd, a suspect in a minor crime.

She describes her first husband being abusive. And he died not lon

Her 2010 marraige to police officer Derek Chauvin was her second.

Her first husband as Kujay Xiong.

In late May, 2020, her husband was captured, on a bystander's cell phone's video, methodically killing an unarmed suspect by holding his knee on the suspect's neck. The video went viral, triggering outrage and protest, around the world.

Within days of the incident false information had been circulated about her, and she is reported to have received death threats, as a consequence. Kellie filed for divorce three days after the incident. She did not request spousal support, even though she was currently out of work.

According to Ms Chauvin's friends, she is known for providing help to struggling small business operated by members of the Hmong community, for volunteering to serve as a translator, for Hmong people, and for providing a refuge for Hmong women fleeing the kind of domestic abuse she faced in her first marriage.[2]
