KD Test
Karl P Dean (born 5 January 1972) is a British Canadian stock trader, venture capitalist, and angel investor with over 25 years of experience as a professional trader on the US, Canadian, European, and Asian markets. Dean is also the founder of Dark Pool Trading, a platform to help people learn to trade in financial markets.
Early Life and Education
Dean was born in Liverpool, England, and later his family moved to South Africa and then to Ontario, Canada. In the early 1980s, they moved on to Calgary, Alberta.
Dean became a scuba diver in his early teens, continued diving regularly, and eventually logged over 5000 dives. His passion for diving and teaching allowed him to become a scuba instructor and taught for over ten years. In 1999, Dean earned an Advanced Math and Physics degree from Mount Royal University.
In 1999, Dean attended school to get his accounting degree with the Certified General Accounts Association of Alberta (CGA). Still, after his third year, he moved to pursue Emergency Medicine at the University of Calgary. To fulfill his passion for building and design, in 2004, he got a Structural Drafting Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
Career
In 1997, he founded GSI Ltd. GSI Ltd was formed after he developed software with his father for Scuba Divers to log their dives. Their software and apparel line are called Underwater Alien.
Dean, a professional structural designer with over 20+ years in the oil and gas industry, has worked on many projects, from SAGD to mining to oil and gas facilities. He has worked for some of the largest oil sands companies in the country, gaining experience in designing complex foundations, buildings, pipe racks, and platforms in greenfield and brownfield applications.
Due to the industry's instability, he moved into the stock market and investing business. Dean has over 25 years of experience in stock market trading and investing, including venture capitalism. Dean always had a passion for numbers from his previous accounting education and looked at how to leverage that background to increase his knowledge of the stock market. He also participated in several courses and workshops and studied the daily market trends.
In 2005, he found and began working with a mentor who had been trading for many years.
In 2007, he founded Alien Investments Corp. to take his trading and investing to the next level. Alien Investments allowed Dean to invest on a larger scale, and the investments included the stock market, crypto market, currency market, as well as venture capital market.
In September 2008, Dean took time away from his engineering job to trade the financial crisis, shorting the failing banking and mortgage companies, including Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae.

Dean was always eager to assist others and enjoyed discussing stocks, the stock market, and education. He founded Dark Pool Trading to inspire new traders to get the proper education to navigate all markets. Dark Pool Trading was founded out of a desire to help people learn to trade the markets. In the beginning, Dark Pool trading started with the name Black Money Traders. Black Money Traders got its name from the oil and gas industry, from which Dean got his trading seed money. During the peak of the COVID years, it was changed to Dark Pool Trading. The company aims to help every new and seasoned trader become consistently profitable in every market condition. Dean himself is a trader and mentor at Dark Pool Trading, having a background in Finance with expertise in evaluating numerous financial markets, from the 2008 financial crisis to the longest bull market, and developing new trading strategies and systems for scalping, day, swing, and position trading.
Stock for Kids
Dean always had teaching and mentorship qualities in him since he was a scuba diving trainer and instructor. He developed a course teaching young generations about stocks and market patterns at a young age and named the course Stock for Kids. Dean's idea was to develop a helpful platform for kids in schools to give them exposure to the trading world and give them ideas to work on for the future.The younger generation can learn about chart patterns, bull markets, investing patterns, and different types of exchanges. The course also teaches kids how to look at the stock market. It teaches basic skills about what a stock is, how to read a stock chart, how to buy and sell stocks, and the benefits of it.
Personal Life
Dean is a family man, married to her diving buddy, Kristen Dean, whom he met when he was an instructor at scuba diving. Together, the couple has two beautiful girls and lives in Alberta.
