Hardbone is a fictional character and third-party Transformer homage to Generation 1 Hardhead and Duros made by Toyworld in 2013.

Toyworld

Hardbone is a third-party Transformer who turns into a tank. He is an homage to the 1987 Transformers characters Hardhead and Duros.

Other third-party Transformer homages to Hardhead and Duros include Headrobots Hothead.

Development

In July 2012 Toyworld displayed concept art of a toy that was an homage to Generation 1 Hardhead and Duros.[1]

In September 2012 Toyworld displayed pictures of the prototype of their Hardhead homage on their Facebook page.[2]

In January 2013 Toyworld displayed color pictures of their first Headmaster and announced it would be called Hardbone.[3]

Hardbone was released in February 2013.

Reception

In the TFormers.com News Desk podcast for July 5th, 2012 Hardbone was covered as a topic. The hosts thought the toy was redundant, and not very different from Generation 1 Hardhead.[4]

The WTF@TFW podcast for January 10th, 2013 selected a picture of Hardbone as one of the New Picture Picks.[5]

In the TF Beyond podcast for January 13th, 2013 Hardbone was covered as a topic by co-host Adam Leboeuf.[6]

In the Radio Free Cybertron podcast for January 30th, 2013 new color images of Hardbone were mentioned in the third-party roundup.[7]

The Radio Free Cybertron podcast for April 3rd, 2013 discussed Hardbone on the show.[8]

The Cybercast podcast for May 4th, 2013 discussed Toyworld Brainwave, Hardbone and Orion in the news.[9]

Hardbone and Trace were among the third-party Transformers who appeared in an advertisement by Robot Kingdom on the back cover of Transformers: Timelines issue for Summer 2013.[10]
