Transformers: Generation 1
The Combiner Grand Galvatron is formed by Generation 1 Cyclonus combining with Prime Breakdown, Generation 1 Roller, Generation 1 Starscream and Armada Thrust.
Animated series
The earliest version of Grand Galvatron was an unrealized plot by Galvatron in the Japanese continuation of The Transformers to incorporate the Earth into his body and become a massive, virtually unstoppable Transformer. To accomplish this task, he would require components from his various minions, and selected Sixshot as the first who would be sacrificed to further his ambitions. However, he was defeated and entombed in ice before he could accomplish this task.
Unite Warriors
Promotional comics released with the Unite Warriors line revealed the origins of Grand Galvatron, which continued from the conclusion of Transformers: The Headmasters. Cyclonus, visiting the site of Galvatron's defeat at the hands of the Autobot Headmasters, was surprised to find that his master's Spark had endured, and it soon entered Cyclonus' body, reconfiguring it to produce include Galvatron's recreated head. Still seeking to create a massive new form for himself, Galvatron had Cyclonus fly to the head of Unicron, which the Autobots and Decepticons had joined forces to seal away in space. Galvatron then appealed to Unicron to help him accomplish his mission in exchange for him helping Unicron regain his own physical form, to which the former planet-devourer agreed. Using his reality-bending powers, Unicron reached out and recruited Breakdown, Roller, and Thrust from their respective universes to join Galvatron's force.
The ghost of Starscream then made an unexpected appearance and asked to join this motley band of villains, and Unicron agreed, giving Starscream a new-if still ghostly-body so that he could combine with the others. The result was Grand Galvatron, a massive figure who quickly reneged on his agreement with Unicron and set his sites on vengeance against the Autobots and all of his enemies. After attacking the ruins of Cybertron, Grand Galvatron traveled to another world inhabited by humans and Transformers and began attacking, only to be attacked by the components of Lynxmaster and then defeated in a battle with the other Combiner. However, both Combiners were unaware of the gathering of the components of another Decepticon giant, Megatronia.

In another reality where Galvatron succeeded in seizing control of the Earth through Dr. Arkeville's Hypno-Chips, he attempted to transfer his Spark into Cybertron in order to become Grand Galvatron, but was defeated by the efforts of a resistance force led by the last surviving Autobot, Ratchet.
