The Enigma of Combination, also known as the Infinite Combinatoric, is a relic from the Transformers franchise that in many instances once belonged to Nexus Prime. As indicated by it's name, it has the mystical ability to grant groups of Transformers the ability to form a Combiner, as opposed to the technological means through which Combiners are usually formed.

Prowl had Rattrap steal the Enigma and bring it to his cell, where he activated it and was merged with Optimus Prime, Sunstreaker, Mirage, and Ironhide. The new Combiner suffered from the conflict between Prowl's will and those of his former comrades until he and Optimus reached an understanding and the Prime took control, resulting in the birth of Optimus Maximus. Arcee's attempt to destroy the Engima on one occasion also led to the birth of Victorion.
Animated series
The Enigma of Combination is featured prominently in the Transformers: Combiner Wars animated series, in which it has apparently been claimed by Cybertron's Council of Worlds for the purpose of creating an army of Combiners and-as in the IDW comics-was responsible for the creation of Victorion from the Rust Renegades.

"Ask Vector Prime" revealed that the Engima of Combination was identical with the Infinite Combinatoric of the Aligned Continuity.
