Reception

Clutch was named #7 on the list of "20 GoBots That Remind Us Why the GoBots Sucked So Incredibly Hard" by Rob Bricken on gizmodo.com in 2013.[1]

Abilities

Clutch has numerous abilities because of his robotic body. He does not age, can survive in space and is super-humanly strong and tough. He can turn into a pickup truck. Thanks to GoBot upgrades given to him by Cy-Kill he can fly and has blasters in his hands.

Fictional biography

Shifting into gear, Clutch roars through the mud, over rocks and up hills just looking to stir up trouble. Capable of taking on any terrain and ready for any Guardian, this Renegade 4x4 truck heads out across country. Mean and nasty, he makes his own roads - - right through whatever stands in his way!

Animated series

Although Clutch did not appear in the Challenge of the GoBots animated series he did appear in a toy commercial story. The Super GoBots arrived by land, sea and air, with Raizor, Spy Eye, Throttle and Super Couper sought out Vamp, Night Fright and Clutch.[2]

Comics

Echoverse

Clutch was featured in the 2016 Ask Vector Prime story Echoes and Fragments, set during the events of The Transformers: The Movie. The manipulations of the evil Gong and Sideways resulted in various GoBots swapping places with characters during the events of that film. Clutch took the place of Rumble in the story. Clutch and Warpath attended the coronation of Zero, and his execution by Galvatron.[3]

Rhetoricverse

Clutch was mentioned and appeared in the 2015 Fun Publications Ask Vector Prime Facebook series when it was hosted by Cy-Kill. It is revealed Clutch and Warpath were dissatisfied and leaderless Decepticons in Axiom Nexus when Cy-Kill recruited them as part of his Renegade army. Clutch was upgraded with GoBot blasters and flight systems and sent to raid the laboratory of TransTech Shockwave.

Cy-Kill believes that Clutch would get along well with BuggyMan.

When the TransTech authorities attempted to arrest Cy-Kill he called his new Renegade troops into action. With the items Clutch stole from Shockwave, Cy-Kill ordered Gong transport the Renegades away. [4]

In his Facebook series Renegade Rhetoric, Cy-Kill chronicled his return to "Level 1", his home universal stream, just as the Guardians were staging an attack on Rogue Star. Cy-Kill and his Renegade recruits from Axiom Nexus joined Fitor, Spoons and Stretch in repelling an attack by Courageous, Leader-1, the Guardian Command Centers and the new Guardian Academy graduates Beamer, Guide Star and Sky Fly. During the battle Monsterous was able to best Courageous and tore though the Command Centers, but a ploy from Leader-1 tricked Cy-Kill into unleashing a massive blast which struck Monsterous, shattering the combiner into his components.

Telepictures Publications

Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur, Night Fright and Clutch in "A Spy Among Us"

Clutch appeared among the Renegade forces in "A Spy Among Us" by Telepictures Publications in 1987. In the story Cy-Kill had Night Fright attack Super Couper and plant a bugging device on the Guardian. Cy-Kill used the device to overhear information about an incoming robot freighter filled with Zintrinium. As the Renegades continued to anticipate the Guardian's moves, Leader-1 reasoned they were bugged and was able to lead the Renegades into a trap in the freighter's hold by giving them false information. Once the Renegades were trapped inside Leader-1 had Scooter program the ship to fly to the Crab Nebula, giving the Renegades a nice little vacation.[5]
