Autobot City is a location from the Transformers franchise, often comprised entirely or partially of the giant Autobot Metroplex.

History

Generation 1

Animated series

First introduced in The Transformers: The Movie, Autobot City was built on Earth as the home of Autobots residing on the planet in addition to the Ark. Optimus Prime dispatched Ironhide and several other Autobots to the city from Moonbase 1 in order to obtain Energon for their assault to retake Cybertron from the Decepticons. Learning of this endeavor, Megatron and a group of Decepticons attacked their shuttle in transit, killing its occupants and using it to slip past the defenses on Earth in order to attack Autobot City. Their ruse only partially worked, as Hot Rod and Daniel Witwicky spotted them as they were about to land, resulting in a battle between the Decepticons and Autobot defenders. The struggle resulted in the deaths of several Autobots, and the city would have been annihilated had it not been for the arrival of Optimus Prime in response to a distress call sent by Blaster.

With the Dinobots employed to counter Devastator, Optimus led the Autobot counterattack and engaged in a final duel with Megatron, only to end up fatally wounded as a result. However, his efforts enabled the Autobots to drive the Decepticons from the city. Afterwards, it was the site of Optimus passing the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus and the subsequent departure of Magnus' forces from Earth to confront the evil Unicron. Later, Metroplex would rise from the city in order to battle Trypticon after the Decepticons forged a temporary alliance with the Quintessons.

In Transformers: The Headmasters, Autobot City was frequently revisited as the primary center of Autobot operations on Earth and the base from which Ultra Magnus and Metroplex both operated.

In Transformers: Deviations Autobot City played a similar role to that seen in the movie; however, it was the site of Megatron's death rather than Optimus', and was thus not attacked by Galvatron since Megatron never became him. Due to his survival, Optimus organized the Autobot forces departing the planet into different groups than in the movie as well.

Shattered Glass

In Transformers: Shattered Glass, Decepticon City was built on Earth by the heroic forces of Galvatron, and served as the site of an invasion by Nova Prime's forces. Transformers: Classics Grimlock, still in his Beast Wars body, teamed up with the Micromaster Predacons to battle Superion, while Galvatron and Optimus' duel was disrupted by Rodimus Prime providing Galvatron with a weapon to use against Optimus. In this conflict, neither Optimus nor Galvatron perished, but Optimus was badly damaged and later reformatted by a noble Unicron into an alternate version of Nova Prime.

GoBots

In Echoes and Fragments, the manipulations of Sideways and Gong would see Autobot City serve as a battleground in a fight between the Autobots and the Renegades, be transformed into Guardian City and see a battle between the Guardians and the Decepticons, before the reality settled into one that merged the two heroic factions and two villainous factions in one conflict. Among the changes that resulted were that Renegades opened a breach for Hot Rod and Kup to enter the city and cut off Blaster's transmission to Optimus Prime, while Devastator was engaged by Courageous rather than the Dinobots and the concluding duel took place between Leader-1 and Megatron.
