David Krae [1] is a film director, actor, producer and author. After years working on both sides of the camera as an actor and crew member on various film and television projects, in 2006 he directed the independent feature film The House,[2] which was featured as an Official Selection [3] of the Canadian Filmmakers' Festival[4] and broadcast by Superchannel. In 2007 he won the Golden Palm Award[5] for Best Script in the screenwriting competition at the Beverly Hills Film Festival for his feature screenplay Lucretia about Lucretia Borgia.
A supporter of independent filmmaking, he supervised production of the Genie Award-nominated feature film This Beautiful City by director Ed Gass-Donnelly among various other projects. He produced and the independent action-comedy feature film Gangster Exchange by director Dean Bajramovic,[6] which won six Best Feature [7] awards at festivals across North America, was broadcast by The Movie Network (TMN, now Crave TV Network, and sold internationally on Bluray and video, in Germany Amazon Deutschland under the title "Gangster Kartell", as well as in Japan and other markets.
As a performer, Krae appeared in various television shows and independent film projects including the US version of Queer as Folk, Degrassi: The Next Generation, among others, before becoming a director and producer. He is been a member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) and has held membership in the Canadian Media Producers Association (formerly CFTPA [8]); A writer and filmmaker, he is based in both Toronto and Los Angeles.
He published a novel version of Lucretia,[9] the story of Lucretia Borgia, as well as the Elizabethan-style stage play [10] upon which it was originally based.
