Bromme Hampton Cole (born May 21, 1962) is an American non-profit executive, entrepreneur, and author known for his contributions to the senior healthcare industry and his work advocating for vulnerable persons. He is the CEO of Sound Start Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to early intervention and educational programs for children with hearing impairments.

Early life and education

Cole was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and spent his formative years in Taiwan, where his family relocated in the early 1970s due to his father's career in banking. Cole, with his family, resided in various countries, including Colombia and China. He is fluent in multiple languages, including French, Spanish, and Mandarin.

He pursued his undergraduate studies at Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later obtained a Master of Science degree from New York University.

Career

Cole's professional journey began in the healthcare sector, where he focused on finance and consulting, particularly in senior care. He held the position of Vice President at Deutsche from 1992 to 2002, gaining valuable experience in the field. Subsequently, he served as a General Partner at HH Senior Care Advisors/Vintage Care Partners until 2008.

From 2009 to 2018, Cole held various leadership roles, including Chief Executive for HHH Informatics Corporation-Hampton Hoerter China and Care Expo - Hampton Hoerter China, as well as Director of Special Programs at Chun Xuan Mao/Meridian Senior Living based in Shanghai and Beijing. His expertise in senior care extended globally, as evidenced by his role as Executive Advisor at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) from 2017 to 2022. In 2018, Cole formed Ocean Strategies to acquire and operate English language magazines in China, notably City Weekend, Shanghai Expat, and Shanghai Baby.

Cole is also an accomplished author, having written two books focusing on the emerging senior healthcare landscape in China: "Enter the Ageing Dragon...: Musings on the nascent senior living industry in China" and "Dragon with a Cane: Profiles in Ageing: China's Forgotten Generation." Additionally, he has written two literary fiction novels, “The Triple Heart” and “When Soft Voices Die…” both slated for publication in the near future. While in China, Cole developed a mobile application called “Care Tiger” which allowed Chinese senior living customers to have better insight into the quality and availability of care homes.

Cole runs the Sound Start Foundation to improve the lives of children with hearing loss. As CEO, he spearheads the organization's efforts to provide early intervention and educational programs, ensuring that children with hearing impairments have access to essential resources for their development. He has authored two articles on nonprofit management that emphasize the importance of operating charitable organizations using for-profit business operational techniques.
