Gerritsen Creek
From WikiAlpha
Gerritsen Creek is a short watercourse in Brooklyn that empties into Jamaica Bay.[1] The creek's original headwaters have been buried, but some of the creek remains, and the mouth is part of a nature conservation area.
The US Army Corps of Engineers, a body with a responsibility for many US waterways, describes the creek as one of the "fingers" that formed the original shoreline of Jamaica Bay.[2] The Corps is taking a lead role in managing a project to restore salt marsh at the creek's mouth to a state closer to its natural state, before modern settlement.[3] $8.3 million was budgeted for the restoration.
