senses is a Los Angeles-based punk-curious, emo-friendly, pop-rock band that cultivates a unique pop-rock edge by utilizing dark synths, driving guitars, pounding drums, and unique storytelling.[1] The band was formed in 2019 when lead singer Madison Taylor met drummer Nick Sampson on Craigslist. In 2023, the band released their debut EP “take me out of here” which included breakout songs “sleepwalking”, “novocain” and “gonna make sure.”[2]

Early life and education

Madison Taylor (lead singer and guitar) was born in Roseville, CA, but grew up in Green Bay, WI. She was inspired to become a singer at an early age by her parents who both loved music. Madison and her family would sing karaoke on major holidays at their local dive bar, which led to Madison doing musicals and writing music - and it all kept evolving from there. She intended to pursue a career on Broadway after high school but ended up moving to Los Angeles instead to start a rock band. Nick Sampson (drummer) was born and grew up in Fresno, CA. He was inspired to become a drummer by his father who was a musician at their local church. Nick originally started playing guitar but then a friend recommended he try playing drums which he absolutely loved and propelled him to move to Los Angeles to start a band.[3]

Overview and history

After coming together on Craigslist, the band has been making a name for itself with their larger-than-life, pop-rock sound. The band brings nostalgia to their music by producing music that celebrates the pop-punk rock era of the early 2000s. The band’s lead singer Madison rocks the vocals and is known for her powerful and dynamic voice and thought-provoking lyrics.[4][5][6]

The band’s debut EP - “take me out of here” which was released in 2023 - was produced by Keith Varon (Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, The Aces, Nightly, jxdn) and received praise from fans and critics alike. “take me out of here” put senses at the height of their creative powers and solidified the group as one of the most promising to come out of this generation of radio-friendly pop-rock outfits. Each song offers listeners an immersive journey through the band's musical universe. From the anthemic TikTok-viral chorus in “sleepwalking” to the intimate, reflective moments in “can't find the words”, the band has something for everyone.[7] Their popular singles off the EP "sleepwalking" and “gonna make sure” have been supported by MTV, NickMusic, Wonderland Magazine, Rolling Stone IN, AXS TV and more, as well as landed the band's first radio support with adds on KROQ, idobi Radio, DC 101 and more. The tracks also received support on several editorial playlists, including Spotify's The Scene, All New Punk, The Locker, and Pop Punk’s Not Dead.[8][9][10][11]

The band also has a handful of tracks under their belt with acclaimed producer and engineer Blake Harnage (Tate McRae, PVRIS) and recently released their single “playing dead”, which was produced by Mike Pepe (Charlotte Sands, Taking Back Sunday, HUDDY, As It Is, Lil Lotus).[12][13]

The band released their first single of 2024, “better than this” with producer Keith Varon on February 29, 2024. The band will release their next single “no fun” with producer Mike Pepe on May 16, 2024.[14][15][16]

senses is currently independent and managed by music and comedy manager Stephen Gordon Walker who is the founder of WalkTheWalk Management.[17]

Tours

After a first successful cross-country tour spanning 25 cities in 2023, supporting Carlie Hanson on her “The Home is Where the Heart is Tour”, the band supported Leah Kate on her “The Super Over Tour” across 22 major cities in North America. Later, in 2023, the band also supported Boys Like Girls on the last 5 shows of their “The Speaking Our Language” tour. In March 2024, they went on tour with Charlotte Sands across 24 major cities as direct support on the North American leg of her “Can We Start Over?” world tour.[18]
